For Trade: Old Fulton light

Hello.

I found this thing yesterday in a corner of my cupboard . Besides some fingerprints, it looks new. I wonder if someone wants it and would trade another (modern) light for it.
And and yeah, it´s still working and blinding bright!
edit: there is no miscoloration. That´s just the light/my mobile phone´s camera.

what did you have in mind for a trade?

I have no idea. I hoped this thing is worth a thousand bucks, but google tells me a different story.

well it /is/ an antique, by todays standards, so I’d say its worth somewhere in the 25-50$ range. Maybe $75 but thats pushing it.

yeah 75 cents, that’s my thoughts

original Army-issued Fulton MX-991/U can be found for around $25, usually.

Neat light, I always wanted to modify mine, never got around to it. One of these days, perhaps…

If I may, I would suggest that you put something like this in it an keep it . I put one in mine and have used it quite a bit during power outrages.I leave it on all night in the bathroom.

good thinking, bikenber73!

I have used a setup like this in 2009/10 when the idea of modifying torches was new to me. I used an original M@gLite LED “bulb” in my Fulton anglehead and was quite happy with the light. Clipped to my workbag, clipped to my belt, clipped to my jacket. Virtually indestructible, too - it even survived my ex-fiancée (and that means quite a lot!)

Even the red filter proved to be useful, at one time. Security measures prohibited staff parking then, and I had to park my car outside; which resulted in having to walk a rural road without any footpath for half a mile after dusk. Vineyards to the one side, dense forest to the other, no light - just your favourite situation you’d want to find yourself in as a pedestrian at night. On went the red filter, clipped to my laptop bag so it’d shine behind me, signalling any cars which would drive up behind me.

@ MrCG,

I still have that 2C/D M@glite LED conversion bulb! If you are interested, I’ll let go of it, for free. You can haz! Drop me a pm when you’re not feeling like spending 15 bucks on amazon.

Well, the light is new. Is has never been used and I don´t want to keep it. So I don´t want to “mod” it either. I just thought someone wants it and dunno, has another light he doesn´t want to keep (and is from somewhere near GER to keep shipping costs low) and we could trade them.

What kind of cells do you use? Primaries or lithium cells? I have a light or two in mind but all my lights are lithium based tbh. I do have a c8 upgrade build that I like, it has a nw xm-l2 and one of the 4a (3.3a actually tested in the light) ios drivers. I’m also based in England so shipping each way shouldn’t be too bad.

Sounds good. I use Li-ions and have 16340s, 14500s and 18650s.
I´m thinking about giving the traded light to my mother. So It does not need to be something high-end or special.

ah, that driver, its a bit of a nightmare if she’s not used to it……

it has 4 mode groups :-

hi mid low
ramping
strobes
hi only.

You change groups by picking the lowest steady mode and turning it off and on when it flickers. I like the versatility of the ramping mode, almost moonlight to very bright but it can get confusing if you just on off in a low mode.

If you think it’d be ok I’m happy to trade, otherwise I’ll have a look what else may be of interest.

I think the light should:

- be sexy

  • flood > throw

Not sure about UI thoug.
My mom already has a Sipik SK86 and she likes it. She won´t ever need a throwy light.

(but you may convince me to get a completely different light. Still, I prefer floody lights)

Just let me say that I´m not a flashlight pro, yet and I´d need to see some pics of the named models : )

the c8 upgrade is the one in the middle, its a 40mm op reflector and about 150mm long, I agree though, it does look a little aggressive, its not flood to throw, I’m not keen on them myself, it does though give a lovely smooth nw beam and throws well enough considering its size, its a brilliant light to drop into a bag or lightweight jacket and forget its there till you need it.

I will show it to my Mommy and ask her if she likes it : )

But, to be honest- I doubt it. she won´t take the light outside the house. That´s why she´d prefer flood.

I can understand that, it doesn’t look too effeminate to me tbh, maybe an edc type light would be better suited.

How did you make the one on the far right half gold?

The method is probably in this thread:

Ahh, thank you! I wonder if I can make one of my Sipik clones turn black-orange-gold. I don't have a blow torch though. Maybe the stove top? Is this something I'm going to regret??

chloe, you’ll only regret it in that its addictive, you can strip the light completely and stick it in the oven, stick part of it over a gas flame (I’m not sure about electric hobs tbh, should work but I’ve not tried it) use a blow lamp as I did on that one or use mapp gas/oxy acetylene/oxy propane.

The hotter you get it the more golden it goes. I like oxy propane or oxy acetylene as I can get very concentrated heat, on dales m10 I managed to get golden stripes that fade to copper.
