I have a SD1 with me right now. Both unprotected flat and button top works fine. 70mm long protected NCR18650B doesn't seem to fit after I have performed wire bypass on both springs.

Sanyo NCR18650GA 3500mAh 10A is sufficient for SD1 and SD2, which max out at ~3A. $13.75 for a pair.
