This Luxeon V mod may just generate a big demand for custom centering rings, not everyone may have the patience for this finicky time-consuming reaming job.
If only you were as good at marketing as you are at modding!
Texas_Ace: contactcr:Well by all means let me TA up my Q8 and C8F with some new rings, lol. What are you waiting for :money_mouth_face:
LOL, I actually posted a thread offering custom centering rings awhile back and got exactly zero response to it so honestly I just figure it was not something anyone needed.

Eh, I can market pretty good when I want to. I just don’t like marketing to friends, so I don’t try very hard on BLF. I also have never really gone for the pushy marketing thing. I prefer to sell things that are obviously superior and let them sell themselves.

That is possible. I have one incoming for myself. Once I get a centering ring made for mine I will most likely offer them for sale as well.

Please do, I will need 6 sets for Q8’s as soon as you are ready.

BlueSword, djozz, led4power, thanks for all the answers!
BlusSword, thanks for the link to djozz’s test thread, I found these posts there that provided positive answers for my concerns about the tint compared to Cree:
.
I built S2+ with 9A LD-A4 (+ thermal enhancement kit) and Luxeon V on 16mm DTP, it works nicely,I’m seeing highest lumens from 4mm^2 die LED with absolutely great tint, it’s pretty unbelievable this LED is only 70CRI,it has quite a bit of red in spectrum and beam is very uniform across emitting angle, also tint is very consistent over wide range of current. CREE XP-L V6 3D tint looks pretty crappy compared to Luxeon V, and it has less output too (fast drop due to high Vf).
XP-L V6 3D (EE X6) vs. Luxeon V 4000K (S2+) white wall
I installed one of the 4000K/16mm MCPCB Lumileds L1V1 from Led4Power in a BLF KRONOS X6 SS/cu light - it has spring bypasses and looks like the stock 22 AWG LED wires.
With a VTC6 at 4.21V, measured 8.7A at the tail w/clamp meter, 2285 at start, 2135 at 30 secs, 42 kcdthrow measured at 5 m. The tint is one of the best I’ve seen, as LED4Power said earlier. It’s amazing what this LED can do, plus the drop over the first 30 secs is pretty low.
I can only describe the tint as a milky white, no trace of yellow - nothing like the XP-L2’s. It does appear very much like a 5B or 5D that used to be my favorite.
Hopefully TA and/or led4power will offer the proper centering rings soon.
For lights that have an XM-L size reflector opening would it be best to use these (slightly reamed out): XM-L Reflector to XP-G Converter rings ?
These also appear to be “converter” rings as they fit a 5mm reflector opening: http://www.kaidomain.com/p/S024679.15_6mm-L-x-9_5mm-W-x-0_9mm-T-White-Plastic-Insulation-Gaskets-for-Cree-XP-L-5-pcs
.
If the rings have a square hole should I ream it out to a circle, or file the inside edges to keep it square?
.
I also found these donut style rings with 4.5mm inner hole (not sure what LED’s are 4.5mm?)
Would these work? But I have no idea what size reflector opening they fit.

Wondered how should a GIT printed centering ring should work, because I know only PLA GIT.
I googled and found out there is ABS GIT filament.
Thank you guys!
Im pretty sure the one i have for my xhp70 is PLA…
Pure PLA kann get weak from 40 degree Celsius on. Blends have higher glass temperatures.
I would rather use ABS in a hot running light.

When I first looked in to this I was thinking the same thing but there are a lot of people already using this on triples and quads under TIRs (D4,S2+ mods, etc). I also read ABS is much harder to work with in parts of this size so ultimately I’m not sure either is ideal.

Would it make any sense at all to print a single “ring” that one could use for their Q8 that “centers” all four emitters? Since the MCPCB and the reflector will dictate LED location and orientation anyway, I’d think tolerance issues would be non-existent. So, a single piece should be a little bit easier than messing with four centering rings while trying to assemble, right?

The result of this thread is that Led4power has a board made and it is for sale here:

Hello,
how is the polarity of leds oriented on the L4P Q8 MCPCB ? There are small black dots for this, but I am not 100% sure.
Dots represent LED Cathode (most leds have some kind of marking for cathode close to cathode electrical pad).
Thank
I need an Q8 5050 MCPCB.
Would it be possible to buy one?
Led4power store is closed.
