Now I have been reading this thread with much interest.
The light is, in my opinion, nice, but nothing to get to excited about. After all, we have seen multi emitter lights for quite a while now, haven’t we?
1) It doesn’t throw as fas as claimed.
Before stating such claims, I would advice to perform proper measurements (@ at least 5 meters) with a proper light meter and to perform several measurements, using the average measured throw
Before doing this, I would recommend using proper batteries, i.e. with adequate voltage performance and length, to ensure proper contact.
2) Leds are not 100% centered.
Yes, that can be an optical annoyance.
However, the correct centering of the led becomes more important with the difference between the size of the led die and the size of the reflector. The bigger the difference, the more important the optimum centering is for max throw. In this case, the die is quite large and the reflectors are quite small. So, not overly important.
3) This is a thrower, therefore it must throw.
Now is it? I think not.
In my view this is a good allrounder with a lot of lumens and adequate throw.
For instance, my Maxtoch M12 does 240Kcd easily. Much smaller, with one dedomed XM L2 and driven by one 26650.
Now that is a thrower, with allround capabilities.
4) Know your facts
Good example: somewhere in the thread someone stated that the new XP-L HI has a higher Vf then the XM L2 and that Nitecore may have overlooked this issue.
Is that a fact? Take a look at the info page in this very forum and see that that is simply not true, at least not at Amperages up to 3A.
BLF Led datasheets
@ 3A: XM L2 = 3,4V / XP-L Hi = 3,4V
Besides, kicking out 3,4V @ 3A is a peace of cake for many good batteries, you certainly do not need high drain cells to get that.
5) Tendency to “join in”.
Apart from a very few examples where poor quality control has led to inferior quality lights being shipped (and this is indeed unforgivable for a brand such as Nitecore!) I did notice that quite a few people tend to “join in” with complainers without having done proper testing and measuring themselves.
This is dangerous because the hman eye is far from exact in measuring light.
For instance: in order to see a significant increase in throw, you need twice the actual throw.
If you aren looking for a real thrower to completely outshine the one(s) you have, you need to look for a light that will do a lot more then having just twice the Kcd….
What I mean with this is: be inforemd before you join in. Read up; there is a hell of a lot of info to be found in this forum.
Make sure that you do all you can to avoid being disappointed with a light that, after all, does perform as promised.
Let’s not forget: one of us had to put in a lot of time and effort to make this group buy happen and, although I have not participated in this group buy, I applaud the members who are willing to put of that time and effert in making these group buys happen!
To everyone that have gotten their new light and are happy with it: enjoy and post your enjoyment; if possible with nice pictures!!
Kind regards,
Nico
