It's not just theory, but it's not binary "can see/can't see" either. You can see light (much) more far away, but that light is less than 0.25lux.
But don't worry: 54kcd is not bad at all. In fact it's very good value for this kind of light! :)
So.. a candle should be brighter. Thats gonna be a tough test. :D

Without owning a Sipik I would guess its a draw by judging from JohnnyMac's beamshots. But SA9 will give more runtime because you can run it on 18650s.

BTW, I received the other one I ordered yesterday, and I really like it. I don’t know that it’s brighter than the Sipik but I like the looks of it a whole lot more, and I think I prefer it to my UltraFire 2100. It is only slightly larger. It does have some visible PWM on low, but it doesn’t bother me. Otherwise, a very nice little zoomie.
