I use the clip on my knives, but I’ve never used one on my flashlights. I like the idea of using the clips on the front of a hat, but since I don’t wear hats, ….
My EDC lights must have clips, either 1- or 2-way, and I often epoxy clips in place to prevent them from rotating. I also secure clips as a grip index 90 degrees to the left of side switches.
I have clipped a light onto a hat maybe twice in a decade, since I wear a headlamp almost nightly around the house, but I do recognize the benefit of that feature for many users.
I have rarely noticed the use of clips for their anti-roll feature since I leave them standing when not in use, but it’s good to know clips serve that purpose, too.
I sometimes use a suspension clip on a light (currently an Al GT Nano) when carrying an extra light in a side cargo pocket.
I am a flashaholic, so I am always looking for an opportunity to use a torch. I don’t normally turn on the ceiling lights when I go downstairs, since I use my headlamp, but I am also usually carrying a handheld torch, so I may alternate the light source. Overkill, maybe, but I defer to the first 4 words of this paragraph.
My wife and kids got used to me several years ago of my regularly wearing a headlamp, even if it’s the middle of the day. It’s a good habit, and also economical given my preference for budget lights.
Thanks for the good honest answer. I don’t wear a headlamp around the house, but I do use a flashlight around the house at night. I work the night shift for my IT dept and its work from home, so when I get up from my desk to either get a snack or take a break, I opt for a nice flashlight instead of turning lights on and waking everybody up.
Been having a little chat with Wurkkos and I think I may have convinced them, with the aid of the poll to include a clip as normal, but not to put it on in the factory, letting the user choose. That would be fantastic for everyone, kinda ticks all the boxes I think? I hope they do it.
Ive just been sewing a short line on all my front pockets, dividing them nicely into two. So I have four front pockets.
I can put a flashlight in one side, and say, a handful of change for example in the same pocket with no concern about damage.
If you consider trying it, the trick is to not sew the line so long that it actually makes the pockets really uncomfortable and actually horrible to use.
I like to still be able to touch the bottom of my pockets if I were to put my hand in and seperate my fingers around the sewn line.
Also looser (wider) is better. A snug (narrow) fit results in the flashlight getting stuck and trying to pull the pocket up and out with it.
I go almost center with one side being a bit thinner for the flashlight and the other side a bit wider for a phone or whatever else. A second flashlight sometimes.
I don’t like carrying lights all loose like pocket change. I install clips on almost all my lights. Some of the stock clips are badly designed I usually swap them out or try for deep carry. Anti-roll and getting a tactile feel for switch location is important to me.
Clip and lanyard on just about everything. The clip on the armytek wizard pro series has to be among the best. It is long and strong stainless with just a little bit of a sheen to it. It has a perfect raised end to easily go over any pocket edge or strap or belt probably up to even including a 2-inch duty belt and totally capture it. It takes a lot of effort to snap it onto the light and it almost takes a pry tool to get it off. You can mount it in either direction almost anywhere on the body you want. I keep it on the tail end so it sits perfectly flush with the tail. It’s not locked in at that point so the light sometimes slides down to make it a deep plus carry. Which is fine as I carry it clipped inside a cargo pocket. Where I have it positioned you do not need to take the clip off in order to snap it into the headlight mount. There is nothing I would change about the design. It really is part of the multi-use angle of this angle flashlight. Some of the other wizard series lights are slightly shorter so they changed the clip slightly so you can’t get it to sit perfectly flush with the tail.
Love me a good clip. I actually like the screw onto the tail, or integrated ring within the thread coupling tail to body.
What I hate, are lanyards, They dangle all over the place and get caught on stuff, always cause the light to tip over when trying to tailstand rapidly, and bunch up when I just want to grab the light.
Yeh, the only thing I have with a “lanyard” is my i1R2D2 or whatever. That’s a long lanyard, like for those clear-plastic ID-holders you can stick around your neck.
That way I can just “wear” it if I don’t have anything with pockets.
Regular short around-the-wrist lanyards to me are nigh useless.
