How much did your light collection cost?

I’m guessing around $1500 for the ones I have. I give some away on occasion, no point in keeping them if I’m not using them and I’m too lazy to sell and ship them.

In the Old Days you had to buy Modified Lights ($$$:money_mouth_face: to get the output we take for granted now

My first LED light was a fenix pd20 about 15 years ago for about $50. I remember it was brighter than my 6D maglight and took a single cr123 battery. Everyone who saw it was amazed by it.

Fast forward about 13 years and I found it in a car I was cleaning out to sell. I turned it on and thought the battery must be dead, it was so dim. I dug up a new battery and put it in. Still dim. Got a third battery. Still dim. So I looked up the specs on the flashlight. 180 lumens. That was all. So laughably pathetic my kids dont even want to play with it.

180 lumens is not terrible, I use many of my lights on low to medium modes.
Heck my keychain light and my single AA lights don’t hit this many lumens.

A bit over 10k.

Wow!!! :sunglasses:

Do they All get regular use?!!!

Use 3 lights a day and after about 120 days of that rotation, they will get used! :sunglasses:

I have 15 at the moment, totaling about USD500.

I had an epiphany earlier this year - I realized I don’t need that many and I was just buying more lights as ‘retail therapy’. Which there’s nothing wrong with that if you have the disposable income, but as I’ve been making a conscious effort to be more mindful of my purchases in general - I decided I had to make a change.

I’ve cut down from the 30+ I had earlier this year. I still think I can get it down to 5-6 essential lights. It’s tough because there’s so many nice lights coming out all the time. In the grand scheme of things, flashlights aren’t the most expensive hobby to have compared to ones I’ve had previously (DSLR photography, PC building) but still - I’m trying to find that sweet, minimalist, spot.

Retail Therapy — I like that —-

Similar to mine, i look for reviews, for a light that does something none of my current lights can do, discounts (waiting for BF right now) and i buy from sellers with a good reputation (i don’t buy from ebay or aliexpress).
I am curious what your monthly spending limit is?

Funny thing is how when I first started collecting I was buying true budget flashlights. $7 S2+ , etc.
Now my average purchase is about $30-$40 or so.

I have 25 s2+’s, ½ are custom. 6 mh20’s, 7 tx25c2’s, 4 deft-x’s, 6 a2’s, and i have no clue how much I spent. I used to own 262 guns. I have double the amount of flashlights. If I kept everything I ever bought I would need to own a storage facility, not just a locker. It’s a good thing I only indulge one hobby at a time

Why so many duplicates of lights?

Just lucky I guess. Liked the form factor, got some in trades and just couldn’t get rid of them. Some have mods. But it only took 15 minutes to save on my car insurance.
I just counted 5 tx25c’s

It is your money but seems like a Waste to me…one could not possibly use all those lights.

Way to much!!! I probably have over a 1000 just in cells that I keep in Pelican cases. I started in 2017 and now have over 60 flashlights so I would guess WAY TO MUCH lol. It’s been a very addictive yet satisfying hobby for me.

After my dad passed away my Mom started hitting the casinos pretty hard —My brother started telling her something one day — She told him ,until I start asking you for money or to pay my bills — Mind your own Damm Business —- she was 88 ,never drove in her life and went through 400 grand in a little over 3 years — we never payed her bills and she left the 5 of us a nice little pile in the end

But did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express (pre covid)?
