I need help recreating this helmet light

That's very impressive stuff there , Shoganai .

Well done .

Thank you jacktheclipper.

And real nice code work there!

Where do you learn the knot patterns?

I make leather zipper pulls to give as gifts to motorcycle friends.

It looks like recessing the LEDs went a long way towards blocking sidescatter in the eyes. Nice work!

Yes it did! And a simple and elegant solution.

I learned a lot of my ties from Tyingitalltogether on Youtube and knotting forums .

I came up with some of them on my own ,

Thank you. I’ll have go take a look!

I missed this thread completely somehow :-(

So a belated welcome to BLF Shoganai :-D

And that is an awesome mod/build you made there. I still cant believe you had the guts to cut into a 600 dollar helmet. Makes my palms sweat just reading about it.

But the results are really excellent. I just love it when I see someones plan come together. Sweet!

How is the weight distribution working for you after the modifications BTW? I used to ride a bike 8000+ km / year all year round for work/school and such and the first (cheap) helmet I bought was damaged from a drop (not a crash, it fell off the top of a cabinet) and I got a much nicer albeit much more expensive one to replace it and the difference was like night and day after a longer ride. So I am just curious :-)

Thank you for the welcome.

If is helps, my palms were sweating too. My husband wanted me to test/build the system on a cheaper HJC that had been crashed but I just didn’t want to waste the time.
I had thought, dreamed, sketched and googled the idea damn near to death before I ordered my first part. I had everything in my head and believed it would all work together.

Re:weight.

I wish I had weighed the helmet before starting. I might be able to guess based on XS C3 known weight and J&M Radio known weight.

I think I added 16oz, which is a lot when you’re talking weight on your head at 70+ mph even on a fully faired bike. It was the weight factor that prompted me to build in a system to easily remove the batteries completely. That way at least I would not need to deal with that in the daytime.

Also it was the weight factor that caused me to go with a separate power system for each. It is more likely I’ll be using the close range system most often, therefor eliminating the necessity to have both power packs mounted at the same time.

I’m leaving for Jacksonville, FL in <30 days (from DC) and round trip will be about ~2900 miles, so I’ll have more data when I return.

Now, for the things that didn’t work, I would like to ask about them here later. I have to leave for work in one hour and need to make dinner. A woman’s work is never done.

FWIW, this is the type of riding I do.

.

Nicely put together — well done. Some epic rides in there too…

WOW !

Truly hardcore and inspirational stuff . Thanks for sharing .

ORSM rides. Makes some of my memorable rides seem short and common :-) Have a nice trip and I we all hope to hear back from you with updates.

Thank you jacktheclipper, I truly love LD riding.

I’m currently in the planning phase of an even more extreme ride for 2015. As of this post, it’s never been claimed.
That is to ride from Cape Spear, NFL, CAN to Homer, AK, USA ~6000k miles in < 7 days and with layover in Homer, turn and haul my fat, old, white chic ass back to Cape Spear. I want to nail down 10 10’s (10 consecutive 1000 miles days) then attempt to complete the west to east route in less the 8 days.

The perfect ride would be to complete the entire E>W and W>E trip in 12 days.

It will cost ~ $4000 in 18 days total and will require one tire change mid route.

Thank you.
This forum made me feel very welcome.
I love learning and will most defiantly be back!

I’m “Shoganai” anywhere on the interwebs and I’m currently building this site http://wrenchingwenches.com/content.php
