Imalent DT70 battery contact problem

I thought they had like a 3 day DOA period where you don’t have to send the light back. I’d check that out first. Otherwise you could contact Gearbest here at BLF (Jona), and see what she can do for you.

Thank you for that. I didn’t know and found it in their warranty. But the customer service never agrees or says anything about return shipping reimbursement. And always say they can refund the product in points and not PayPal. Good thing you told me this. Now it’s in written from their website. Let’s see what they reply.

Correct. And together with Paypal you stand strong.

FWIW, I just received this light last week and they have upgraded the “springs” in the battery holder. It now has some pretty beefy coil springs in the battery holder, not the metal tabs shown above (I’ll post pics when I get home). All of the batteries are at the same height when placed in the holder. I have been really impressed with it in general too. The build quality is excellent. The LEDs are perfectly centered, the reflector and lens are flawless, as is the body. I really like the OLED too. It’s nice to be able to gauge how much battery life you have left by just checking the display. And of course it’s ridiculously bright. The beam leans towards being throwy, but it is also pretty floody too. It heats up very quickly on the two hightest settings (16000 and 8000 lumens), but the thermal protection kicks in and it drops down to 1800 lumens then. But it’s a great monster light to have in my collection. It has dethroned my L6, which used to be the brightest light I had. I also picked up the Imalent DN70 on a flash sale a couple of weeks ago, and I’m equally impressed with it. Has all the same great build and overall quality of the DT70. It’s a nice little baby monster light.

^ Hey thanks for the info. The new coil spring version is discussed in the previous page as well. Glad you like yours!

Where did you get your DT70? if they really solved the problem i’ll be getting DT70 too.
I think DN70 is a great light, on ceiling bounce it is as bright as my stock Convoy L6. None of my lights including the single cell Haikelite are as right on turbo well not until Emisar D4 arrived that is.

“The” problem, as in one? There are multiple problems. You’ll just need to cross your fingers and hope you get a good one with no issues.

agreed, the brand doesn’t emit much confidence, that is what holding me back from imalent DT series.

a bit of topic:
as singular and plural form in english sometime i didn’t realize it, as my native language have different ways of dealing with plural so if things aren’t as clear as it should be i apologize. For example in my language the same word can be use as plural and singular by using the sentence differently.

I know the DT70 can be had for about $180 and the 16,000 lumen is enticing, but I’m not gonna buy it. The UT-03 on the other hand is only $65 (plus batteries) and is around 9,000 lumen.

I’m wondering how much difference you really see between 9k and 16k (or is it closer to 13k?). Idk, but it seems a better choice in my opinion. Hopefully it will be released in the next month or so.

Not much i think but we like numbers and figures. I have seen review claiming it is a 13k light as you said. Cant wait for UT03 too, but people probably gone for BLF Q8 instead.

Both are so cheap, I plan to get both. Lol

It’s $160 for the DT70… Price will probably going down too (just a guess) if we wait a little longer. And you also get four protected 30Q batteries with it. I requested a review for this battery to HKJ some weeks ago, so hopefully we’ll see within a few months how well it performs. So the way I see it you pay only about $100 for the light itself. So it’s really interesting now… as long as the light works, and is not flimsy.

I think there is a huge difference beam wise between the DT70 and UT03. The way I see it, the UT03 is a superdeal, but the beam is pretty conventional: triple XHP70 in shallow overlapping reflectors. You get a wide beam with little throw comparable to that of the X7 or TN36. The DT70 on the other hand has about 50% more output (realistic value), which is a lot. But the reflectors are fairly deep for a soda can light, and the domes are shaved. You get a lot of throw… and the tint is also nice it seems. KG Tuning (mostly CPF) is really pleased with the beam profile compared to the X45…

At least this is my guess. When it comes to beam profile I should like the DT70 a lot… I think someday I will get an Imalent. Don’t know yet which one, and don’t know when: they just keep changing/re-iterating models. I mean I must get one at least “to get it out of my system” of overthinking what it’s like.

(P.S. Here’s a beamshot of the DN70, also with shaved XHP70; it’s a glorious beam profile with a really nice tint… über 1.000 Beamshots mit Lampenbildern | Taschenlampen Forum)

i dont even know how to open my DN70 would be sweet to shave the dome off but i already like the beam pattern. The color on my DN70 is also toward neutral but not as neutral as the light in my BLF A6 or Astrolux s41 nichia 219b. I kinda like the tint on DN70 but the A6 is better.
Just like you i might get another imalent but at the moment it is not a priority since Q8 and BLF GT are almost ready not to mention UT03 and i would also like to know how DX80 turn out to be and we might get better discount toward DT70 not to mention another light such as Astrolux MF-01 which is probably 3 months away?

Your DN70 is already shaved; that’s how you get the extra throw and a slightly warmer than cool white tint. This is definitely one unique feature of the DN70 and DT70: factory shaved XHP70 emitters.
Defintiely looking forward reading reviews of the DX80. If I’m not mistaken this light has built in charging as well. But… I believe it’s a 4S2P configuration… 4S charging… hmmm…
Also really like the MF-01 as well… So many lights… :sunglasses:

I forgot DN70 it is shaved from the factory :person_facepalming:

What a year right? i just got active againt recently so i dont know how it is compared to 2016 and before. But i am glad i joined again and boy this year is awesome.

oh Dont forgot Emisar D7.

Imalent seems to get a lot of grief here, but I’m wondering if they have improved their business model in the last year or so?

I own the DN70, and it’s by far my favorite light. I’ve taken it camping, hiking, dropped it in a flash flood (it was on at the time, and at about 3am. I found it by following the light in about 18” of moving water!).

I absolutely love the crisp beam color, and the beam pattern is the most useful if any of my lights. It has a very even spread, and a gentle hotspot that really helps in lighting up at a distance.
I love the two button system and the way it functions. Especially helpful is the left “special functions” button which allows a momentary boost to turbo from any mode. Let it go, and it goes back to the mode you were in. I’ve used this countless times to catch a Forrest critter of guard out ahead of me while hiking on the low setting.

My only two complaints - I wish the buttons were either raised up a bit more, or a different color. A little hard to find in the dark. Secondly, I wish it had a 1000lm setting. Due to the great beam pattern, the 300 lm setting is good for almost any kind of close work or hiking a forest, but sometimes I would have wanted something between the 300 and 2500 setting.

That 300lm setting is great, though. I have hiked for over an hour in the dark, and at the end the battery still read 3.80 (though I was using a high capacity 26650 rather than a high drain one at the time).

The DN70 is the limit of my experience with Imalent, purchased last May, but it has been fantastic and I’m right on the edge of purchasing the DT70, now that they have made some adjustments to it.

I hadn’t seen the previous discussion about the new springs until you mentioned it. I went back and read it. Since I didn’t know they had made this change when I ordered mine, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that mine had the springs.

I got mine from GB on a flash sale for $154.99. As I said, I’ve been very pleased with the DT70, and the DN70 as well. They are both very well made and so far have functioned perfectly. The voltage display is off a bit, but I don’t use it for precise voltage measurements. I just use it as a rough gauge of how much power I have left. And as others have noted, the light is charging the cells correctly even if the final displayed voltage is a little off. Not a big deal to me. Heat is definitely an issue with both of these lights though. They heat up very quickly on higher settings, and step down fairly quickly too, which is both good and bad. It’s good that it steps down to prevent the light from being damaged by overheating. It’s bad because the run times on highest settings are limited. In practice, I don’t see needing to use the highest settings for long periods anyway, so again not a big deal for me. In fact, I’m so impressed with the DT70 and DN70 that I pulled the trigger and pre-ordered the DX80 on M4D M4X’s group buy. I can’t wait to see what that beast will be like!

I just wanted to add since I use two DT70’s weekly (one is a buddy’s)-

1) Both have the revised coil springs, but his only has power when the body is screwed fully into the head until a hard stop; a quarter turn loose will shut his down. Meanwhile, mine takes a full turn or so before losing contact.

2) It should be noted that the DT70 uses a common + and - for all four batteries, so balance charging can only be done with them removed.

3) I recharged mine a half dozen times or so using only the onboard micro USB charging before pulling the cells to individually check voltage and log recharge capacity. I generally treat new batteries to a light “break in” for the first dozen cycles, so they did not see below 3.85v/cell. I expected to see some variance here, but was pleasantly surprised.

I used a hobby grade charger (B6AC+) on the included Imalent 18650’s and noted the following (very impressive) results:

-All four batteries read identical voltage to the hundredth (about 3.97v)
-All four were charged individually at .6a and my charger was happy after about 60 minutes
-All four cells took within 2mah after half a dozen unbalanced cycles.

The results suggest a level of matched performance I did not expect from a set of four included “freebies”, especially ones being seriously discharged and heated in use and recharged unbalanced. I’ll revisit this on both DT70’s in a month or two.

-Jake
