Is this a good flashlight?

I am looking for a <$20 flashlight that is both bright and holds its charge.
I figure that this must use 2x 18650s in parallel = twice the charge?

I couldn’t say since I’m not that in to zoomies. 2 x 18650 in series. It says it’s got a booster circuit, I don’t know why. With two cells in series, I’d prefer a buck.

Sorry, I’m a newbie to flashlights. What does all that mean?
Wouldn’t 2x 18650 = 7.4volts = too much voltage for the led?
And then wouldn’t a booster circuit increase the voltage even higher?

I’m just reading what it says. Yes, you are correct. Two cells end to end are “in series” and the voltage would be doubled, so I don’t know what it would be boosting.

I looked around Aliexpress, and that’s the only store that mentions “booster circuit” for that light. Whatever driver is in it will regulate the voltage for a single XML. Two cells will give better run time, but it is impossible to get 2000 lumens from a single XML T6. We call those “Chinese a Lumens”.

Ive seen it on ebay by different sellers, as well as amazon and they mention the booster circuit too

  • Internal wiring applies the high efficient booster circuit, working voltage is wide and can utilize the batteries in the largest extent.

For $16 my advice is buy it… try it… .review it. I’m in the process of getting some “known” lights and I’m hoping to test out a few unknowns with beam shots to compare.

I like zoomies. That style looks practical, but I don’t know the quality of that particular model. It doesn’t matter much about whether the cells are connected in parallel or series, as there are drivers that convert voltage. The main issue is keeping the cells balanced, which mostly depends on having identical good quality cells with the same history.

I believe the trustfire branded zoomie of this light has been reviewed… I’ll look for it, iirc it was mediocre pretty good actually.

great, thanks for the review link.

So it seems like it’s great at holding an output curve so that it doesn’t dim as much as the batteries go flat, but the maximum power is not being utilized for the LED, and doubling up on batteries doesn’t mean doubling up on run time. Is that a fair assessment?

However the single battery variant for this torch doesn’t seem to be any better.

So I’ll probably give it a miss.

The main reason I wanted a powerful zoomie, is because I keep chickens, and the coyotes/foxes are regularly around the coop.
I wanted to be able to have a flood that would show the whole coop area (which is a very large space) from my house, and then be able to focus in on any predators.
So for me, a zoomie is the most useful type of torch.

This one might be a good candidate in your budget, Looks to me like a little bit newer version of chinese flashlights or a desperate attempt to generate sales. Either way its a win.

Yep, it looks like something out of Dr Who

Never watched that show but I guess it does. I find it decidedly similar to the solarstorm Sc-xx lights that fasttech sells.

Why does the head look like it has a P60 dropin in it (notice the spring)
