Joe Dirte's Light Thread

Are you talking about the holder that it is in? I normally dont use those white Convoy holders for the s2+ lights. I just remove them, they all seem like the same TIRs when removed.

I have a bunch of random TIRs that i have bought, I couldnt tell you the exact one that I settled on. The B35AM seems to work best without a spacer centering ring, or ones that fit the ring pictured.

Ill have to dig through what I have and see what I used, all the TIRs with the B35AM seem to work well. The tighter clear spots have a nice round even hot spot with no spill.

The 5050 Convoy TIRs seems good with the B35AM. I find the ones with closer to a 5.0mm+ hole, with that the B35AM fits perfectly inside no gasket. The tighter degree lenses seem to create a nice round even beam. From clear spot to beaded or frosted. All these go into a s2+, I use care place the TIR on the LED and screw it in trying to balance it. There is little play with the H4 lenses so they align well, if there is a misalignment its usually the TIR not seating square in the flashlight body, i like the TIR lip/lens to fit tightly into the front of the flashlight. Some of them ive had to lightly file but most center up good.

Not sure if ive tried the 20mm 5050 TIRs on the B35AM, they measure right at 5.0mm, I cut the legs off and its a really tight fit over the B35AM. I think if one were to put a slight chamfer on the TIR that would be a great option! Ill swap a few around and take a couple beam shots.

I use the 23.3mm and 21mm lenses a lot, i remove them from the holders and use them on other LEDS with a centering ring. Sometimes I use a larger centering ring 5050/9mm and 7070/10mm with a TIR. Those rings will hold the outside base of the TIR allowing the TIR to get closer to the LED, if you dont over tighten the pill.

So far my general favorite is the 21mm/23.3mm 15deg bead. Im struggling with some spill artifacts with the larger LEDs in the smaller 20mm hosts. I have a few other brands of Reflectors and TIRs on order to try out.

My goal is a pure even round spot no spill. The B35AM and the triple 519A are pretty close to that goal.

B35AM pictures with the H4 lens

Its centers up great, the S2+ holds the front of the lens perfectly. Little play around the LED also. The LED is centered I had the light and phone not squared up to the ceiling. Rings are present in person but worse in the picture.

Triple/Quads:

Triple B35AM 6v 5a driver
Triple 519A 3v 8a driver
Quad FFL351 3v 8a driver

The quad FFL351 with the tighter spot lens didnt look great swapped to a more floody style and as you mentioned it has a nice spot!

I think the Triple S2+ FFL351 will be my go too moving forward, the light output seems comparable with the three lights using my phone to measure the LUX.
