Well crap, they filled a 20 foot box truck and had no room for the stuff I wanted… Now I have to wait 5 weeks for the next run to the homestead. They teased me with a couple of more pics… they tell me the cabinet is full of parts, tooling and stock. I finally got a pic of the saw as well.
That saw alone is worth 200-300 bucks. I've been looking to pick one up
Run don’t walk! What a steal, you lucky dog! Can’t wait to see what you make with that stuff.
5 what? Weeks. I’m glad I’m not you. :person_facepalming:
Tell me about it the wait will kill me. I have a place already in the shop!
You’ll need to get a notebook for all the orders we will be placing with you. I think pills are hot right now. Check with hoop, he clue you in. He’s a master craftsman.
Atlas/Craftsman 618 are selling for $800 in my neck of the woods. Why are you not hooking up a trailer right now?
I’m declaring you entered in the machine made side of the contest.
MG, I would if I knew exactly where it was… All I have are pics, it is all screwed up in an estate! The heirs do not know anything about the tools and don’t want to. It is about 5 hours away… I think!
I wish we had these ‘estate or yard sales’ over here.
There’s someone on youtube called tubalcain, his machine shop video’s are great. He’s always going to these sale’s, he has around half a dozen lathe’s.
I really hope this works out for you Matt. The waiting is a killer.
This has me checking craigslist for a find close to me. I don’t mind a drive if I find a bargain like that.
Matt's deal works out to be $100 per piece which is good even if not modern or fast. The mill is more of a converted drill press but for what he wants to do (flashlights) then I think this stuff is more than adequate even of the lathe does not allow for threading. Just my opinion but anybody would be hard-pressed to find everything at $100/pc without any tooling which ends up being the real cost of machining.
The key is to keep looking and looking. The deals can be found if one is patient enough, especially in the Northeast. Lots of forgotten equipment in old buildings, often free if someone is willing to move the stuff (heavy).
