Maybe someone here can help with this. I came across this lathe yesterday. It doesnt work right now and it is missing two of the jaws in the chuck. I will worry about those after I get it running, if I can get it running. [image] When I plug it in and hit the power switch it doesnt do anything. Lathe questions...

I have a chance to pick up what appears to be a pretty good old Atlas 618 lathe with a bunch of tooling, for a very reasonable price! Also included would be a mill/drill with tooling and metal cutting band saw. I am not rich, but really want/need a lathe for small work. I know these will cut SAE threads, but I am not sure if I could cut metric with it or not? Would this be enough lathe for light work with copper/brass and aluminum? I need opinions as soon as possible, so I can commit. [image] …

**probably in the wrong topic, please move if necessary mods. Looking to drop some money on a lathe. Just something small, obviously for things like Maglite mods, custom pills, and the sort. ALSO, I am an avid firearm modder/collector, with a few ATF stamps in my collection :). I would really like to start on some Form 1 suppressors. Is it even feasible, to get a decent mini/desktop lathe around the $5-600 mark. I have found a few ‘Asian lathes’ on Flebay, but I don’t know squat about the subj…

What do you think of this old lathe?

I’ve been on the lookout for a budget lathe. I might call about this one, but wanted to run it by you lathe guys first. I looked up Seneca Falls lathes and it seems like some of these 100 year old ones still run well.
