LED test / review - Luminus SFT-25R (6500 K 70 CRI) - good thrower LED in 3535 standard footprint

Update: I believe I have a G1 bin emitters. I could have sworn it said F8 when purchased, but my orders say G1 according to KD website.

SFT-25R Bin Screenshot

It tested at 252,800cd with a Molicel P28B! My next closest is a C8 Yinding 5050 Glass 7000k 3v8A@222,800cd. I had purchased a few of these emitters, I will test another and see how it performs, but I am impressed with it so far.

I received the ten SFT-25R yesterday ordered from Convoy. Cool looking tiny version of the loved domeless 40!

In an Mezzol X6 (new Eagle Eye X6) I’m seeing a nice throwy hot spot with a pleasant tint. Without a tail spring bypass it pulls 5.97A on an 25S cell, at a measured 1220 lumens. This is on an MTN Electronics 22mm FET+1 driver with Bistro. 20ga leads.

On a walk, it easily illuminates beyond 300 yards, with decent viewability out to 500 or more.

I plan to build a triple and a quad in the X6 package and see how that plays out…

Thought I’d mention that the total build is about $24. Plus the cell.

Not a bad investment at all for a Very handy pocketable light.

5000k!

4 Thanks

Yeah, with no information at all

I ordered one of these 5000k from Convoy which hopefully should arrive within the week. I’ll post what info I can when I get it into a light.

4 Thanks

Ah, that’s because I finally got tired of waiting for these and ordered a bunch of the 6500K. They arrived yesterday. Time to order these…

3 Thanks

Edit: It looks like I ended up with a 6500k emitter vs the 5000k I was expecting.

I got in a 5000k emitter from Convoy today and put it into an M1 host.
Measurements taken with an Opple LightMaster 4.

Ooof, that’s rough. I thought the DD bin was supposed to be below bbl? It looks like you got the 5700k emitter instead.

1 Thank

What current was the measurement taken at? I have a 5000K from KD and it’s in a S8 with I think a 5A driver. On .1% and 10% it looks somewhat green, but much better at 35% and 100%. Mine appears to have a fair bit of tint shift.

Typical for Luminus LEDs (except for one: SFT-25R in highest bin 6500K from KD, it has almost no tintshift at all)

1 Thank

It was at 20% with a 8A driver.
I retested at 3 different levels and got the following, but note that my test setup isn’t exactly precise or highly repeatable (just pointing the light at the LM4 across a mostly dark room).
1% CCT 5848 - DUV .0075
20% CCT 6024 - DUV .0061
100% CCT 5953 - DUV .0050

3 Thanks

These CCT measurements are indeed very high for a 5000K emitter. Subjectively, how does it compare to other emitters with known CCT?

Truly this makes me think Simon is stocking the 5700k SFT-25R instead of the 5000k

Edit: It looks like I ended up with a 6500k emitter vs the 5000k I was expecting.

Subjectivity it’s very blue. Way more than a 5000k SFT40 and noticeable more than an Osram W1 which was listed as 5400.

I think this beamshot represents the color decently well. With an 8A driver on 100% which this was taken at LM4 reads a CCT of ~8000k.

3 Thanks

Thank you for the beamshot! Looks more blue than my 6500K. If it’s not overdriven (which raises the CCT), then it’s definitely the wrong emitter.

I would try emailing Simon to see if he can get this mixup sorted out

Looks like some issue with heat dissipation (exceeding Tj due to insufficient reflow or defective LED itself)

How can you tell?

Looks exactly like the 5000K SST12 I’ve gotten right when it appeared. The thing looked bluish even at lower currents, to the point that i thought the seller had sent me the wrong specimen.
