Really? 21700 EDC form factor? Zebra SC65 is the probably the most balanced and technological EDC light on this ape planet. It’s small 2,5X9,2cm and light weight 38 gr. Light with integrated charging circuit and USB hole in host will be bigger, heavier and not fully waterproof.
So ultimate Zebra SC65 34gr + magnet charger 25gr
Agree, alternative choice can be 14500 or even smaller. Since you traveling around power sockets batt capacity optional.
Illumination Gear has a EagleTac DX30LC2-SR w/ side LED available with Luminus SST20 R9 CRI-95 4000K Neutral on both side and front. It takes 18650’s and has a recharge port in the flashlight.
I’ have a few EagleTac’s that I like, each with pluses and minuses but haven’t tried one with a charging port.
IMO, if you can live with a with 5700-6500 Kelvin temp without high CRI, I might suggest the Fenix LD30R (18650) or E35R (21700). They are a little floody though. I have the older LD30 which is almost as small as some single CR123 flashlights (LD30 does not have charging port on flashlight but has one on the battery).
Edit: Just a heads up, if you are planning on flying, airlines aren’t friendly to Li rechargeable batteries. Personally, I take something that will take AA’s when flying. Similarly, for road trips I keep a cheapie Coast 3xAAA in my glove compartment and a 14500/AA or 16340/CR123 flashlight on my person.
I’ve flown with 16 Eneloop AA and they complain. I’ve flown with my 18650 headlamp and they don’t. I think it just depends on the airport. I’ve never heard of the EagleTac brand before though so that’s new. Do all the Fenix have bad UI? If it’s 1H to turn off, I’m pretty done.
How does the EagleTac lineup work? I assume you implication is to buy the DX30LC2 and use a 18650 with USB-C charging? I see the DX30LC2-R has a proprietary charger so that’s a pass…

We’ve seen phones for awhile that are waterproof with the earlier ones being waterproof with a door like the Samsung S5. Having more openings makes it harder to design but not impossible. Ultimately though the only thing waterproof I’d argue are pelican cases or the like. It will cost more and is bigger though which is obvious. Also not everyone needs everything to be waterproof but I do respect that point since that’s something I’m aware of with IP ratings.
I came from a Tool AA and wanted more power and got an SC65 used so I’m happy but the Tool AA has a rechargable 14500 in it which is neat. Not a huge fan of the UI but a fun and cheap light to start off EDCing. That’s why I’m looking at 18650/21700.
The charger looks cool since I’ve not seen that form factor. I’ve done exactly what you said in the past that fits an 18650 and worked out. Said charger can’t do anything bigger than 18650 though. My 21700 headlamp I travel with it has USB C so at this point, I’m just ditching the charger and getting lights with USB-C in it. Less stuff to think of or possible lose.
Like I said I’m ok using it for EDC around the area but when I travel on a plane, I want lights to have USB-C since it makes it simpler.
When you travel are you planning to take your headlamp too, or is the EDC light instead of the headlamp?
Reason I ask is that if you’re planning to take the headlamp too, you could use that to charge a battery for your EDC light, which then means that you wouldn’t need USB on that light and that would give you more options. Of course that plan falls down if you don’t take the headlamp.
I was going to say the ts22 as well, but I wasn’t sure it had type c to c charging.
Other than that, I think it fits all of his requirements, and the efficiencies is insane!
The Fenix with a tail switch (like the LD30R) turns on with the tail switch (forward clicky)… 1C. I believe the the one’s without tail switches are 1H.
What I like about the Fenix with the tail switches is that the side switch just changes modes (at least the older ones I have). My Thrunite TN12 Pro (as well as some Acebeam, and Klarus flsahlights I own) can turn on both by the side switch and the tail cap switch. Although some like this, my Thrunite’s side switch can easily accidentally turn on in the pocket unless I untwist the tailcap to lock it out.
EagleTac is uses older designs/styles, but can often be had with alternative LED options through the Illumination Gear website. Some might find their lights ugly or not as stylish as their competitors. I however, have been happy with mine.
I’ll also mention, usually when I travel (assuming I will have an electrical outlet available) I carry a 3-5 port USB charger so that I can plug everything in at that same time at night. Another option is to have a battery “power bank” instead of a swappable battery. The power bank can serve to charge other things like a phone or tablet in addition to your flashlight/battery with a thinner profile. If I spend a lot of time in a rental car, I’ll also bring a higher powered USB adapter for the car’s power outlet. This comes in handy if I’m constantly using Google Maps or similar to navigate.
Again, I haven’t had good luck with airport security (in general), so use Li Ion rechargeable at your own risk. It’s easier to track down AA’s while traveling than 18650’s, especially with most Vape Shops switching to Nic salt styles from 18650 mods. Also, standing at the airport (especially the return flight) and having to part with $100+ worth of Li rechargeable batteries (i.e. a power bank) isn’t easy to do.
Never had a problem in 60+ flights in last 4 years. These were through a handful of airports, so perhaps your experience is relevant to specific airports?
Scratch what I said about that Vapcell, I couldn’t find them on the AliExpress store, so messaged them, turns out the cells are out of stock and they have no plan to restock …
I don’t know what the heck you’re talking about.
Maybe next time, quote the part of my post that is relevant instead of quoting the part of my post that is not relevant.
…
Like I said, I don’t know if my EDC can do USB-C to USB-C charging.
Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t.
Someone else will have to answer that question.
Ticks all your boxes, plus has Anduril with flashing pads AND reverse charging (ie, can charge a USB-C device like your phone in an emergency), and additionally can be had for less than $20 without a battery (and less than $23 with one): Wurkkos FC13
I’ve been EDCing one for over 1 year now and couldn’t be happier.
XHP50.3 HI is fun, too, if you want it more floody. Or B35AM for high CRI. If you want/need USB you can’t really go wrong with S21E, and it is smaller than most USB-C 18650 lights.
I don’t know what the heck you’re talking about.
Maybe next time, quote the part of my post that is relevant instead of quoting the part of my post that is not relevant.
This is about the only forum where I hit reply and I expect it work as intended but somehow it doesn’t if I’m doing a few posts at once… Sorry. Looks like I was hitting reply to one and responding to another. I wish you can group all the replies into one post so it’s easier to know which one you’re replying too.

That’s the secret backup plan with a headlamp being able to charge 21700 cells. ideally I make every light HAVE it’s own charging since I may not bring all of it, and I’ve forgotten about it in the past too.
The EDC light would be separate from the headlamp. The catch is that the headlamp is a 21700 light so I’d need a 21700 EDC light. I don’t know how small those are IF I remove USB-C. I do know the D4k exists but it’s floody as a quad right?

Fair points. I already travel with a USB battery and also the chargers but my chargers are only USB-C to make it easier to manage rather than having some micro USB or related.
If the Fenix tailcaps have sane UIs then if there is a E28R but tail capped I’d consider it since was an option I looked at.
The D4K is brilliant, but it is floody. The D1K could be an option, that can be as throwy as you like depending on LED choice. It’s a bit bigger than the D4K but still smaller than an E75. No USB charging option though and a battery with USB is unlikely to fit.
Much as I want to recommend a Hank you’re right in that you’d be stuck if you didn’t take the headlamp.
As someone mentioned above the Convoy S21E is a great option, it does have USB charging and comes in several colours and LED options. A 5000K SFT40 would give you plentry of throw and a nice neutral temp.
