Lost a Light

Rolled/fell off and is hiding behind or under whatever it was on. Hopefully you have another flashlight to assist in the search. And young knees.

The brain makes mistakes. Many. The real problem is, we’ll get no hint about that happening. Chances are excellent you completely forgot something unusual. That’s since we remember in terms of patches of memory fragments. Unusual things are often not remembered since there are no patches for them already. Problem is, you can be very sure about you remembering all your steps, but missing one very important.

The opposite can happen, too: You can be convinced you did something you didn’t, just because in the past you always did this in similar contexts.

We humans need an update. A RAM expansion.

And you need to look at places you are convinced the light is not.

A few weeks ago I went to get one light and realized that two lights were missing. After searching a little bit I noticed it was three that were missing. I searched a little more and then remembered that I had put three lights in the downstairs freezer at 2°F to do some battery/flashlight testing. I had put them in there 3 nights prior only intending to leave them in for a day. I was relieved and happy to do some testing. And yes this is the first time that I have a put some in the freezer. So I’ll know where to look next time. I’ve done some testing pulling them out of a vehicle at that temperature but thought I should do slightly more controlled situations.

A few years ago I was taking some very strong pain medication and was always losing things. I’d find some of them in the oddest places.

It happens. I’ve so far twice “lost” my Convoy L6 at home. I think the fact it’s in a padded carry case helps that, as it’s not standing up on something.

I had the same thing happen here , give it time. Mine showed up a few days later (we literally had the house apart looking for it and gave up) it had rolled under something in the front room, or been kicked there by someone accidentally.
If you have a ‘MRS Rusty Joe’ it will likely show up when she does some tidying/cleaning as women seem to find places us men don’t even know existed :stuck_out_tongue: :person_facepalming:

It’s the last place you left it —- some where between peeing and screaming from peeing — all it takes is to buy a new one and the old one will appear out of jealousy

I used to say lost doesn’t exist in my world. I either put something down and forgot where I put it, or someone stole it cause things don’t grow legs and get up and walk away. I changed my tune a few months ago when I “lost” a Boss flashlight that was clipped to the outside of my jeans while riding my motorcycle. I found it a week later on the side of the road. In a way, my second sentence is still true. I “forgot” that I had clipped it to the outside of my jeans…

I have “lost” a couple of lights, one was found inside the structure of the couch and the other under the driver seat

I had a expensive pair of scissors also in the structure of the chair somehow.

Look in your underwear drawer. Thats where most objects like this end up.

I vote for in the couch or recliner. I have also had a light fall out of my pocket in the drivers seat of the car and roll under the seat or down between the seat and the console.

Logically speaking, why would someone only steal a flashlight? Your average Joe wouldn’t know that was an $80 light.

You probably broke your routine in a small way and when the light turns up you will remember. But regardless, I’d use another light and look under and behind every piece of furniture in the house. I’d also check all dirty pairs of pants and inside the crevices of the furniture (past the cushions). Also, open cupboards to see if you absentmindedly used the closest flat surface and then someone later closed the cupboard.

I don’t know what kind of TV stand you have, but is it possible the flashlight could have managed to fall into it? If the opening on the back is big enough it could have bounced off the wall and landed behind the media players.

Eep!

Big honkin’ Maglite, too, if I’m not mistaken.

Unless he’s a bit Rusty, of course.

Looked in the laundry basket?

EDIT: Check your shoes. Shoes are big and not tossed away easily => safe stash.
And stay out of sight/use when the weather changes from sneakers to boots.

check the freezer

here is how:

Check the dirty laundry, recently washed clothes or in the dryer, I once left an Emisar D4S in the space where the car windshield wipers tuck away when not in use, I went to work, came back home and casually noticed it because of the aux led glow. I was glad no one else saw it.

I operate a 12 Step meeting hall, and sometimes I find very strong pain medication on the floor after the meeting is over.
