I personally favor a high quality aluminum reflector over any TIR out there. AND a high quality AR coated lens to cover it.
Variety is supposedly the spice of life, or so they say…
Of the 230+ lights I have here only a few have optics, granted most of those are modded lights that I pulled a reflector from in order to make triples and quads so it was my own doing. I have an L6 that uses a large unique optic and it works ok, beam pattern is actually quite close to the stock reflector really. And the Ledil Seanna, albeit clunky and overly large, does indeed put light quite far downrange with the disconcerting addition of a lot of outer rings in the beam profile.
I’ve seen your builds in the modding thread and they are indeed pretty cool lights! I have a couple Ledil Seannas. Been experimenting with different emittters to see if any are better or worse as far as extraneous rings. Being I don’t have a PCB large enough to mate with their “installation plane” I’ve been using washers as shims under the standoffs. Hope to report on that at a later date.
Actually have been busy playing with larger CoBs more and more, both with reflectors and TIRs. Still haven’t settled on anything yet, but I’ve been leaning more toward the TIRs.
I have an XP-L HI under my Seanna that does over a mile in throw… the Seanna is a complex optic though, with a precollimation TIR and then the Fresnel lens on top. Very atypical and also quite pricey if and when you can find one.
They’re actually not pricey if you buy them from CDI (half of what others charge), but they don’t stock it so it takes a while. I was quoted 6 weeks, but they delivered to me in about 3-1/2. But yes one of the weirdest TIRs I’ve seen…
This one’s pretty strange as well. The bubble over the emitter has like + signs all over it and then the reflector like sides are almost a Fresnel. Odd, but it works…
Focal point was considerably higher than the L6 emitter shelf so I cut a spacer to sit under the MT-G2 I used… works out pretty well.
I worked with them for about two years, to right before they were merged with the Schlumberge CAD/CAM group. I met their DEC maintenance tech accidentally about a year later, and he told me when they announce the merger, the home office types just walked into the computer room and slapped the big red switch without shutting anything down. I guess it really did a number on several of their disk drives.
Hey all, given HKJ’s review of the Vapcell INR21700 4200mAh (Test/review of Vapcell INR21700 4200mAh (Green) 2019) and how much better it is than the Samsung INR18650-30Q 3000mah and Sanyo NCR18650GA 3500mah on with high currents and runtimes, I really think this light should be designed to fit them.
It's been discussed a couple times in this thread already, probably too late at this time. With the 30T and 40T out and available for months now, I don't see how the Vapcell 4200 changes much of anything. Compared to the 40T on HKJ's comparator, not much difference.
Ah, I must have missed that, and didn’t even know about the 30T and 40T. Been so busy at work, don’t get all the time to read forums as I would have wanted. Thank you for the answer
Yeah, 21700 has been suggested but lumintop feels it would just make the light too heavy and I can’t say I disagree. It would add over a pound to the weight based on their calculations and this light is already tiring to hold.
Personally I am split 50/50 on it, I can see both sides.
hm a light this size u arent really meant to holding in your hands a longer time, using a neck strap should be the way to go, then another pound or not wouldnt matter.
how much does the gt4 weigh stock, like 1,8kg or something ?
My sister was here over the weekend and she was talking to Mom about her purse, seems my sis thought Mom carried too much in her purse. 84 years old and carrying a 9 lb purse around all the time. So I guess flashaholics are wusses. (What? How could I pass that up?) They went shopping and got Mom a smaller purse, parsed out the stuff Mom carried and are happy with the weight of the new one at around 5 1/2 lbs. Mom will load it back up, I’m sure of it…
yikes… thats some heavy light for sure, looks heavier then it looks it seems then. okay when its over 3kg anyways i dont see why it shouldnt support 21700 imo…
