Ate you sure about one mode?
With memory a light can be used as if one mode but in the situation a lower modes is more suitable it can be handy to be able to half press to that.

Sure about one mode for this one. I have another C8 to mode later and i may put some multimode driver (seen ones with many modes and programmable)
I need it to light the hill behind my house sometimes at night, and it is always sitting on the window.
And I can always change driver if I want to

I was looking for one more C8 host to make similar light for my dad but with OP and NW LED and found some cheap $5 C8 lights on ebay.
Is it any good to buy that and replace LED and driver?
Not concerned about finish/anodising that much…more interested in metal quality, is it any good?
Go for the Convoy .
I had 2 cheap hosts and ended up changing almost everything .
AR glass , Reflector (it had cheap plastic that i changed for Convoy’s) , pill (from kaidomain) and the switch .
On 10 dollars total the only reason to do it would be if you want to use custom reflector , so you need to adjust the pill height .
The point is I want to change everything and have some fun doing it.
Buying finished light takes fun out of it 
Get a Convoy host .
Then try a dedomed emitter … Xm-l2 u3 / u4 or xp-g2 s2/s3/s4 (old production) and a nice fet driver in there . Also AR glass is a must .
With a high drain battery of course and a good xp-g2 emitter (old) you will enjoy it
Edit : If you want to try OP reflector maybe a dedomed xml2 or xpl hi will be ok as far as throw isn’t no.1 priority.

Any of the multimode nanjg 105C 17 mm drivers can be modded to single mode by shorting one pin of one of the eight 7135 chips to led. This bypasses the mcu(brain chip) and sets the single mode to 2.8A. You lose low voltage protection but if you use the input diode (D1) as the jumper you retain reverse polarity protection. A 7135 chip has 3 pins on one side and a wider tab on the other, with the tab up the right hand pin is the one you want. Usually led us located next to this pin on one of the chips. Since all the 7135’s are in parallel shorting one of these pins shorts them all.
