I’m building some 18650-based lights for a few people, but they don’t have the batteries or chargers. What is a good battery + charger combo that doesn’t cost a fortune? I don’t need Pan 18650B quality/MaH, but something decent (probably protected)…along with a safe and versatile charger.
A charger/battery combo under $20 would be ideal, as long as it’s not complete junk.

Batteries: 18650 Samsung from BG in 4 packs. Link. they are 4ish $ or less each with code. Pretty decent value, wouldn’t go below that. If thats to high only option would be laptop pulls from forum members, they’re 1-2$ but still brand name cells.
Charger: I2 is fine IMHO, ENB powerbanks are nice also, if only 18650 I’d use something like the Xtar MC1/MC2. They need a 5V supply / phone charger though.

Prices at Fasttech.
Nitecore I2 Lithium Li-ion Ni-MH Ni-Cd Smart Battery Charger - $14.43
Samsung ICR18650-26F 18650 3.7V 2600mAh Protected - $9.31 for two.
Not the best, but not the worst. Good/safe enough to gift to most.
Edit: Interesting, I think it is the same battery and charger as previous poster suggested. I posted before I saw it.

RMM:
For those of you who aren’t on the newsletter, here’s an excerpt from today’s newsletter:
1. XTAR + Battery Rebate Sale
Want to get the best deal possible on your next XTAR charger and battery purchase? Look no further! We are bringing back our XTAR + Battery Rebate Sale for a limited time.
How does it work? Simply place your order for any of the qualifying XTAR chargers (see below for product list and rebate amounts) along with any in-stock battery, and place your order! You receive a rebate, in the form of a refund, when your order ships. No coupon code necessary. Simply place your order, and the refund will be automatically applied.
You may receive a rebate up to the amount of batteries and chargers in your order. Here are a few examples:
Example 1: Buy an XTAR VC4, which has an $8 rebate, along with $10 worth of batteries, and you will receive an $8 rebate when your order ships. Since the amount of batteries exceeds the rebate amount, you will receive the full rebate.
Example 2: Buy an XTAR VC4, which has an $8 rebate, along with $5 worth of batteries, and you will receive a $5 rebate when your order ships. Since the amount of batteries is less than the rebate amount, you will receive a rebate equal to the cost of the batteries purchased.
The rebates amounts are as follows:
When does the rebate period end? In order to qualify for the rebate, your order must be placed no later than Tuesday, May 5th , at 11:59 PM PST .
I always give Xtar Mc1 chargers, and protected cells, either Samsung 26f or Samsung 30b
