The problem I am having is with a Black Cat AAA light. I need to take the head off to get it working. I am asking for a partial refund and have ordered another from a different store, but still trying to get it off. I donāt want to scratch the finish more than I have already. I put penetrating oil on it, put it under hot water, wrapped paper towel around it and tried to turn it with pliers. Next maybe the freezer and a torch. I donāt have liquid nitrogen.
I love it when it works.
Maybe you could take a picture down the tube to show us what you are working with?

I use cable staples
Personally, I just use needle-nosed pliers. Just make sure you get ones that are narrow enough. I also have snap-ring pliers, but my needle-nosed pliers work better in almost every case.
Another option is to unfold a large paper-clip and bend it into a "U" shape with each end going into the holes in the pill. then use long-nosed pliers held perpendicular to the light to firmly grip both sides of the paperclip. Turn the pliers to unscrew the pill. This won't work for pills that are very firmly stuck though. For that, needle-nosed pliers works best.
I made a tool out of a steel sleeve/pipe to remove these. Also as mentioned above a pair of Angle-Snap ring pliers may work unless its really tight.

They may get scratched up in the process, as others said try heating the head with a hair drier or hot air gun at 100C, it might soften up whatever it is holding in the pill
If you can get a leather strap and a pair of vice grips might grab the fins as to not marr them, then get ahold of a large flat tip screw driver see if you can get it in both notches to get some massive rotational force on the headā¦it will come eventually but the pill usually getās scratched up, thus the leather sleeve to prevent marring
Very carefully dip it in liquid nitrogen and then tap it with a hammer. The pill should fall right out.
There is a big problem with this plan, i have no access to liquid nitrogen
I actually gave up on this for now, it is stuck in very good so perhaps someday i will buy some snap ring pliers, the needlenose wonāt fit and everything else i try breaks before the pill will unscrew

Did you manage to get this out? I am in the same boat. I donāt have a drill bit that small and I had some success with pliers and the tissue paper shim. The ring turned maybe three times and now wonāt budge
