I just spotted a new XM-L2 drop-in at Manafont:
http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/ultrafire-xml-two-5mode-memory-led-dropin-module-3742v-p-12915
Typical specs, UltraFire 5-mode single-cell, but the pic shows an unusual pill design:
No star board? Mounted directly to the brass pill? Thoughts? :~
It makes me want to order one just out of curiosity...

That looks more like a regular pill with a recessed copper disc as a cover.

Okay, yeah, I can see that now...
Where can I buy some of those recessed covers??? That cleans it up very nicely!

That's the one I saw yesterday listed as "XM-L B TWO" - whatever that means! I thought that looked like an XM-L2! Hmm . . . order one and report back to us!

Brass is golden and it's not copper.

I think intl-outdoor had a similar looking pill, can’t find it now but there are some pictures in the review by Foy.

Foy Finally Discovers Neutral White
These three drop-ins have introduced this humble scribe to tint. I used to think everything was secondary to lumens but the detail rendition of a proper neutral (not tan or some other 'color') has demonstrated to me beyond all doubt the value of tint. I can tell you that an XM-L driven to 3 amps is hardly dim and given what we know about gains above 3.5 amps, overdriven lights (as fun as they are) are begining to impress me less and less. These XM…

Does the reflector sit down in the recess? Or is it above the LED with possible lost light OTF?

If that brass disc is screwed in (but I see no holes for a plier) it is a really neat way to fix the led board to the heatsink.

It sure does not look screwed. Since it's square in the center you can't screw it without busting the leads.
