New Convoy color samples...taste the rainbow

I took it to grocery store just for you…

6.16 ounces… .385 pounds….174.633 grams …

I saw the listing for the copper S2+ when I was poking around AliExpress about an hour ago. Too rich for my blood right now, unfortunately.

Here it is

Will definitely pick up a purple one :+1:

I’m a huge fan of orange lights, I dream of an S2+ with a matte blaze orange colour - not possible with anodizing but maybe a coating like cerakote etc. It would no doubt be expensive but I wonder how popular this colour would be? I tried coating an existing S2+ with blaze orange plasti-dip but it was not durable or professional looking.

The copper S2+ is sweet but I have a question, Usually copper will turn dull and even green over time, which destroys the look IMO. Does the copper have a clear coating or something on it to protect it?

…Also I am just thinking, if the copper light does have a coating then does this mean the threads cannot be coated due to conductivity concerns?

It looks amazing but is copper really a good flashlight material? I know it could conduct heat very well and this is a good thing, but as well as displaying flashlights and showing them off I also like to use them and am concern about the long term reliability of copper light (more so in concern to crucial conductivity surfaces such as head and tailcap thread/contact between brass pill and copper head etc - if these crucial surfaces oxidise and go green then light could be unreliable no?)

Copper does …not copper could.

People seem to like copper for it’s heat conductivity and the “dulling” of the finish called patina… My copper sinner never gets green…it oxidizes a bit then that’s it.
I quite like it…

Copper should never have a clear coat in my opinion but that’s just me. I carry an Old Lumens copper A01 every day and thankfully the coating mostly wore off over time and it has now developed a decent patina. Just about any coating you applied would wear off eventually anyway unless your light just sits on a shelf or in a display case. I am almost certain there is no coating on this batch of copper S2+ but I asked Simon to confirm so I will let you all know. Of course one of the cew people who already have one can probably answer before Simon responds.

In my own EDC experience, the hands on part of actually using a copper light keeps the tarnish at bay. Even if you WANT that rich dark patina, handling it keeps that worn off for the most part. The green that some people seem to want can only grow on copper that’s left solely alone, handling it of course means it won’t happen unless there are crevices that don’t get touched in daily handling.

I got a light to repair lately that was taken swimming in the ocean. Solid copper, brass fittings inside. The salt water corroded the copper at the silicone boot and cause a leak into the switch area, everything inside the tail cap was NASTY!

So, while copper conducts electricty and is thermally excellent, it’s also soft and gets scarred up and has some issues with exposure in extreme instances. I wouldn’t recommend a solid copper light for extreme work environments, enthusiasts might like the solid copper for it’s ability to handle and extreme driver/emitter set-up, there’s just going to be some extra care needed to keep the light in good condition.

Couldn’t stand it, had to order a copper one :person_facepalming:

Wasn’t sure what he meant by the pick yer own driver/LED options, as there weren’t any listed (that I saw).

Just ask him, “I’d like a XM-L2 5D with nanjg 105C driver, 10%/100% modes”?

I would assume Simon means his standard drivers, either with biscotti or 3/5 modes and with configurable number of 7145s

Ran across the C8+ and couldn’t resist. Oak Brown in color, hmmmm, oooook. Thought I’d see how GearBest is doing shipping things these days.

Thanks J-Dub74, will be interested to hear about wether its coated copper. I think someone also asked if it was raw copper or an alloy, do you know this?

More in line with thread topic, what’s your opinion on Convoy supplying cerakote or similar style coatings in the future? Based on your experience would there be any demand for this?

Sounds good, so if made of raw copper the solution is simply to handle it often or take to it with a cloth every now and then to stop the tarnish building up. I do prefer it shiny :crown:

I’ve actually cleaned a copper light up pretty nice sitting at a restaurant waiting for my meal… used the slice of lemon they put in my tea.

Any coating will wear off, some quicker than others, but it usually looks pretty bad as the coating chips and peels off and leaves the light in a calico pattern of shiny and patina’d. There are products that are supposed to leave a protective film, but I haven’t found one that actually works in this instance. Well, I used Renaissance Wax on my Solarforce M8 pill that Bucket made for me and it’s still shiny sitting on the shelf, that’s been a few years ago now. Never use the light. Supposedly it’s a Museum quality restoration wax that was developed for priceless antiques so…

Thanks J-Dub74 saw your comments regarding copper in the copper S2+ thread will post there in future.

Hey guys, looks like Simon has officially listed these colors on the Convoy store.

Violet

Orange

Cyan

Note that these only come with the XM-L2 and the old 3/5 mode firmware by default. If you want the XP-L HI and Biscotti, start a purchase but stop when you get to a spot that lets you add a note to your order. Use that to request Biscotti and the emitter of your choice. Don’t submit payment until Simon updates the price to reflect your modifications.

Sweet!

I think I’m going to take my time on these. I have too many tube lights already. I’m going to have to give away a few first

Thanks, just ordered the cyan & violet - and requested Biscotti firmware (which Simon has always given me for free in the past).

So pretty.

You guys are killing me, you know…

Why don’t I just sign over my paychex to Convoy, Sofirn, Thorfire, etc.?

:weary:

If I only had mo moola, love those, gotta get some but just can’t right now… :frowning:

Man how I would LOOOOVE an L2 in that Violet! Wowza!
