Please don't expect too much from these Mini-PC... they can not substitute a full X86 PC or a notebook. They are fantastic media players and you can browse simple web pages with them at reasonable speed, but the loading speed of more complex pages might take a lot longer than most of us are willing to wait. So I would be careful if your main intention is browsing complex web page with complex structures like flash etc. A used HP or DELL Mini-PC together with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS might serve this purpose a lot better.

Someone (liliputing) tried a non-optimized version of Ubuntu on the MK802... it is slow as hell, but it does give me hope, that we might see XBMC on the device at some point.

Can you give me an example of a "complex website"? I'll go watch some tablets..^^

yeah those arm chips are pretty slow for doing “real work” or even just web browsing

1.5ghz arm chip is certainly not the same as a complex 1.5ghz x86 with out of order execution, FPU, complex branch prediction, etc

my dual-core nvidia tegra2 tablet seems even slower in web browsing than a single-core atom netbook

They are very good for "always on" devices, even with slower webpage loading speed... they beat my full-size notebook, if I have to take it out the notebook case and boot it up first... even from standby. I typically use my tablet to check mails, check the BLF frontpage (but I use the "recent posts" version instead of the one with all the reviews with pics) and check Ebay biddings .As a rule of thumb ... I use my tablet more as a media player with the benefit of having the full web accessible in pinch... but if I am spending more than 5-10 min on the web with extensive website hopping I use the PC/Notebook. Even netbooks with Atom chipsets are too slow for that for my liking. I also have the impression that the small ram is holding my Xelio back, this is why the MK802 is so attractive to me with 1GB ram. I will test if it's the ram or the processor speed what slows down the web browsing experience, but the factory manager of the MK802 told jackyhu of exduct that the 1GB version is considerably faster than the 512MB version. That does make sense, when the system is forced to swap between the fast ram and the slow nand-flash memory, there would be heavy slow downs.

Here is my checklist for anyone is interested in purchasing any Android device (tablet/mini-pc):

Cortex A8(single-core)/A9(dual-core) Processor , Mali 400 GPU or better

Android 4.03 or better (either on the stock-rom or flashable)

HDMI out with 1080p

at least 1 USB-Host-Port the more the better (mouse+keyboard+harddisk/USB-stick)

at least 512MB ram, but 1GB is most likely a lot better

at least 1 MicroSD/SD port to extend the internal flash memory

7" inch tablet should have 1024x600 or better and 10" inch tablet should have 1280x800 or better resolution.

tablets should have an IPS-screen for better viewing angles.(7:30) standard TFTs often have very narrow viewing angles...

tablets should have Bluetooth or Bluetooth dongle support... the connectors on mobile device don't get better over time from constant plugging-in/unplugging

tablets should have a capacitive screen !!!... resistive screens are just annoying

What about Tegra processors?

the nvidia tegra3 is a quad core beast with performance around netbook/subnotebook levels

tegra2 is kinda old, but still faster than allwinner a10

They are the top of the line, Tegra 3 devices are the most powerful on the market today, but I have trouble spending 300+ € on a device, where I can't change the battery myself. In fact my HP Core I5-2 notebook (HP Pavilion g6-1105sg) only did costs 399 €.

I took the liberty of generating a pre-filtered list of the brand name tablets for you for the German market. If you compare the price points you can see the difference to the Sanei N10 I gave you via PM. ( German Shop & China Link (Video) )

I would spend that much, if it really was worth it.. thanks for the list, I had those tablets in my hands today and except for the Asus, they didnt feel good.

At this time, I dont think an Android tablet is what I'm searching. Gotta have to wait for Win8 tablets.. or the Asus TF700. :D

Usb video game controllers also seem to work... very good for emulating some old home computers or gaming consoles. USB-ethernet adapter too

The device just hit engadget... which should give a nice boost on the developer side.... we might even see XBMC on ARM SoCs. (7:30 mark)

The tegra 3 has a fifth core that runs when low processor load applications are active (or when idle). This minimizes power consumption. Pity they renamed it to 4-plus-1, it used to be called “ninja-core”.

The TF prime would be the tablet choice for me. But it is a want not a need, so no tablet for me.

The Mini-PC-Stick has arrived. It took 20 days to get here to Germany.

I paid $81.50 equaling ~€68,40 shipped...

I only had a short time to play around with it a bit, but it works pretty well so far. I had to "blindly" switch the language from Chinese to German, but it was not a big deal.

Mine was dispatched yesterday, so I will have to wait 2-3 weeks yet …

What did arrive was the keyboard, which with win 7 works really nice.

I have seen that Exduct has lowered the price to 73.16-10+5.34= $68.50 (~55€).

I did test the device a little, playback on 14 GB 1080p MKV files are no problem. WLAN with WPA2 encryptions works better than expected and the device "feels" faster than my tablets while surfing. The stick seems to switch between 720p in the GUI and 1080p in the video player. 32GB microSD cards and external hard drives (FAT32/NTFS) are no problem.

Got one today. Seems to be a bad connection with the power cord going into the device. Works intermittently. :frowning: otherwise, this one also came with system default language set to chinese. Managed to change it to swedish though

You can also power it over the mini USB port if you own a USB charger.

Do you assume the problem on the powerplug or on the stick side?

I believe the problem might be bad soldering or something inside the minipc. Tried it succesfully with the mini USB slot, but then you dont have any more usb for mass storage since the wireless keyboard occupies one also.

Maybe a cheap usb hub would help with connecting more devices? Or do you own other 5V power plugs that might work?

these are pretty cool!

I own an acer a500 tablet and it’s so friggen’ handy…

Yeah, they are a impressive piece of technology.... too bad Starleaf seems to have received a defective one.. did you buy it at Exduct?
