I have this light, and the long press from off to get to the “ultra low moonlight mode” which is said to be 1 lumen is more like 10 or 15 lumens. This seems to be the case with every light I’ve ever bought that claims to have such a low light level—-it never turns out to be true.
I’d also like to point out that locating the button in the dark by just feeling for it is extremely frustrating. It’s nearly impossible to find. I even turned the clip to be on the opposite side of the light so it can be a guide to find the button, but the clip gets turned out of position so easily that it’s useless for that.
When you use 14500 battery to turn on Moonlight, it would be brighter than that of using AA batery

I just did a comparison of the moonlight mode using the 14500 battery and a 1.2 volt NiMH battery. They both appeared to have the exact same brightness in moonlight mode. Also, the specifications for both batteries show it to be 1 lumen. However, when I compare it to the light put out by a 9 LED light (those cheap ones that use 3AAA batteries and cost a dollar), I’d say the moonlight mode is about 2/3 as bright. The 9LED is said to put out around 15 lumens, so that means the moonlight mode of the SP10 v3 is around 10 lumens, whether using AA or 14500 battery.
Just got my SP10 v3.
Some observations:
- Tailstanding is fine. While not quite as stable as previous versions of the SP10, I had no problems tailstanding it on a hard service.
- Interface is good. Very similar to Olight interface, with instant access to on, off, turbo and moonlight.
- “Moonlight” is more of a “low” setting. Personally, I define moonlight as a setting low enough you can comfortably stare at close range into the bezel while the light is on. The SP10v3 is a bit too bright to fall into that category. My guess is maybe 5 lumens.
- The clip is crap. It’s exact same clip that came with with the SC21. It was crap on that light and is crap on this one. The main problem is the bottom bend isn’t angled away from the light. This means there is no ramp to guide the clip onto a pocket or belt. The result is hooking it to anything is a 2-handed operation. One hand is needed to lift up the clip while the other slides the light into place.
- The protruding metal button can activate very easily in the pocket. Lockout is mandatory with this light if carrying in the pocket. Fortunately, it comes with electronic and tailcap lockout.
Overall: Nicely sized light with good UI, beam pattern, build quality and high-CRI. An excellent deal for a light that can be had for less than $20.
