New rubber boots are offered for our lights

Can confirm, DT8 fits superbly in a breast pocket. It fits fine elsewhere too, but it stands perfectly in a breast pocket.

Since becoming a light-nerd I’ve started refusing clothing with limited pockets. Too many lights with too many tints to carry just one.

Not the optics unfortunately, i have the yelow and rosy versions going through 10621, 10622, and 10623 and the effect is still the same. One is very rosy and 5 are not lol.

I'm glad other people are noticing this. I bought a 5D KR4 about five months ago and it was rosie and the nicest LEDs I've ever seen. Well beside my 4000k 5A FireFlies ROT66 Gen II (also the nicest LED’s I have ever seen). I bought 4 more Hank lights - 2 KR4’s and 3 D4v2’s since then and they all have a yellow. When I got the nice KR4 5d, it was before Hank re-listed he had stock on his site, and it required a PM email to get the 5d. the yellow is a little disappointing, but on the same note when compared to my SST 20 4000K they are still not green, and by comparison look pretty good. I bought a titanium D4v2 with an SST20 2700k/4000K mix and that is nice and Rosie too. I was going to go with that again, but given the lower output compared to the 5D, I use that as an indoor light and I really do not need too many with that 2700k/4000k setup. Who knows that may change, because the more I look at it the more I like that mix (even though the 4000k aren’t FA4’s, they’re still nice mixed together).

I ended up ordering the DT8 in 5D yesterday, and I know I will almost definitely get the yellow ones, but it just is what it is. I still like them. And has a side note, I changed out the LED’s in a brass FW3b I have a couple months back with XPL-Hi 4000k I got from Kaidoman - I believe they are 4c. They are yellow, more so than the new 5D. Again they still look nice and “not green” compared to even my best FA4 FireFlies sst20 4000k, but look YELLOW compared to my nicest 5d rosy set from hank (I unfortunately only got one nice set of 5d from hank, but I have 6 lights with 5d form hank).

I guess what im saying is I REALLY appreciate my Rosie 5D (and 5A, thanks Jack @ FireFlies), I still really like my yellow 5D as they are brighter than my sst20 4000k, and not green like the sst20. Although I do still have an appreciation for my 3-4 lights with nice 4000k sst20’s. Hope that make sense.

Just me being me : got a kr4 in 8A today ; rosie for sure, much better than the green 8D . I would have gone that way .

good call, thanks for heads up on 8a being Rosier than 8d.. I just emailed and asked Hank if I could switch from 5d to 8a. I miss the rosy xpl-hi, and it seems like a good light to grab such a solid hard to find emitter in. Thanks again, hopefully I caught him in time, as I haven't gotten a shipment notification yet.,

Well, here goes nothin'! A DT8 Coming in 8a. Hope they're Rosy LOL :)

I’m not an expert here, but I search and found for a good explanation on why the colour of the light reflected off the lens doesn’t significantly affect what passes through the lens:
http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-166.html

I recommend to read it up to the Q&A and will quote one question with answer:

Now…my notes which may or may not be correct. Please let me know what do you think.
There is some tint change but considering the amount of light affected, it’s very small. Do note that the author talked about light coming at the lens perpendicularly.
That’s why when you look at the lens from the front you don’t see any colour change. It’s too small to be detected. As the angle of incidence increases, so does reflection.
But almost all light that hits a lens in a reflector light comes at an angle that’s quite close to perpendicular. That’s the case with the entire main beam and probably with spill as well. If there’s detectable tint shift caused by AR coating - that’s at the very edge of the spill. That may not be the case with any ring artifacts - but we don’t care about their colour anyway. That may not be the case with mule lights as they have LEDs much closer to the lens - and so the incidence angle is much larger.

And actually djozz’ numbers show that the difference is extremely small, far too small to be detected by the eye.

The difference is subtle but it is detectable. I happened across this effect by accident when I assembled two seemingly identical C8s with 4000K LH351Ds. One was noticeably greener than the other. I thought it was just variation in the chips, despite being right next to each other on the reel. Upon further investigation I noticed the AR coating was different on the two lights (one had pinkish reflections, the other dark purple). After swapping the glass with a new one from Convoy the tints were nearly identical.

It’s easy to test on your own; just remove the front glass, turn on the light and move the glass into and out of the beam.

Or just look through the glass, with the D4s duv +0.0030 it’s really bad, with the KR1 +0.0010 it’s still detectable but certainly more subtle.

But you also have to take in consideration that most LEDs out there are green tinted and the purple reflection AR lenses add even more green on top of that. A neutral lens at least doesn’t worsen the tint, and one with green reflection AR improves it.

For example here is a KR1 with the XP-L HI T6 8D that was offered a few weeks ago :

8D is supposed to be between duv 0 and –0.0060 at test current, in reality the bare emitter is under the BBL only right on top of it, as the angle increases it quickly moves above the BBL, no way that it is under duv 0 integrated.
A duv –0.0010 lens like the one Djozz showed would have brought it on the BBL.

I just received several AR lenses from Kaidomain for my D4S, D4V2 and some other lights, they are between +0.0003 and +0.0007, better than the original one in the D4S for sure, but it would be nice to have green reflection lenses.

This ^ is all very interesting to me , although still very new to me and i am tryng to keep up and lear exactly what you all are talking about with the BBL and DUV..

One thing i noticed, @ thefreeman, you said:

"But you also have to take in consideration that most LEDs out there are green tinted and the purple reflection AR lenses add even more green on top of that."

I managed and ran a paint store for about 10 years, and i got pretty good at matching custom colors of paint and stain. Yes the computer matches most things for the paint store employee, but it is often wrong with custom color matches for existing colors when people want to touchup paint, etc... and transparent stains cannot be matched with a computer at all, so it requires learning how the 8 foundation pigments interact with each other to attain the desired "tint". I become quite good at these customer transparent stain matches because no one else wanted to do it. it required too much time.

All of that to say - when colors were too green, i would add red pigment or magenta pigment. when colors were too red or magenta, i would add green or deep gold pigment. basically offsetting the color and walking it into the right shade.

Is light and AR lenses the opposite? Does a green tinted AR lense push an emitter that already has a green tint to be more green? I find this interesting. and sorry if this is a stupid question, i know i have much to learn with this. but i am interested because i can relate it to something i already know a little about (paint, color).

Have you read the article Agro linked ? It explains it well I think (thanks for the link).
BTW it mentions that the multilayer coating lessens those reflections, that explains why the kaidomain lenses are better.

Now…my notes which may or may not be correct. Please let me know what do you think.

But almost all light that hits a lens in a reflector light comes at an angle that’s quite close to perpendicular.
[/quote]

I would say the intensity of light reflected by the emitter is strongest close to perpendicular, but light in general (all light) is cast on a lens, on both sides, 180°

I had to think of it this way to understand, but I agree with what you are explaining.

That is very interesting. If anyone can locate a source for these coveted green tinted lenses, I would really like to get some.

Would these be viable to run with 4x 4000k SST20 and 4x W2? If they would play nicely together I think that would be an awesome combo.

This maybe can help. :+1:

Boy, my reputation is on the line ! Seriously, i wish i owned a rosy 5D . You wanting to stick to the xpl-hi route, this is a nicer avenue i think .

Well.. yes it is! i didnt say it , you did! LOL. Nah I'm kiddin', I'm sure ill be happy and i look at it like - you suggested to me to select an emitter I've been really wanting to try but have been too chicken to pull the trigger on. I like my sst20 2700k lights, I like my xpl-hi output, and i dont care about HICRI as much as SWEET TINT :). so I'm sure ill like it. Funny though, i almost went with 5000k on this light at first, now Almost going with the opposite.

Thank you Lightenzaza!

Oh, and i feel lucky to have a single rosy 5D light, considering the only other 4000k xpl-hi i have that is rosy is my ROT66 gen2, so a little different than an edc lol.

Hank ships fast. Real fast. My KR4 shipped on the 4th and arrived this morning. I hope my DT8 comes as quickly.

Yea, yea, yea.. you folks in the UK get the Primo special treatment with your fast ship times, while we suffer over here in the states with our 2 week ship times...

LOL, just kiddin' its not that bad, but you all do get things QUICK.

My DT8 and D4s W2 shipped today, the countdown begins!

So, I just got that call from my wife… "Your flashlights came in ". Me: "what flashlights?"

except I was serious, because my DT8 and D4S Shipped five days ago and now they are in my living room!! The quickest shipping I've ever gotten from any manufacturer overseas was 10 days, Hank just cut that in half. I'm not even sure how that is possible. But it is friggin awesome! Checking out my first DT8 tonight!

And there you go!
