Newbie stinger mod suggestions

Anybody else notice his name?

Yep, what about it.

Just saying it doesn’t seem like he’s supercreative, seems like lights were on his mind at the time…

Scaru: Thank you for your response! And yes it is an incandesent.

Raccoon city: Thanks for the welcome!

Last and very least, sintro:
I hope you are one of a very small minority on this forum.
I guess I should have used a name like “2400+LM SNOB”, “DeathBeamThrower” or some other bs “super creative” name.
My user name was not “super creative” because I dont need to “create” a cool alter ego on line because my real life sucks.
If advice for a novice is only given to someone who has typed in a “super creative” user name. Then take your advice and shove it.
I’ll figure it out on my own. If you think you have any idea of what I’m capable of based on a “super creative” name then you are a fool.

Which incandescent? Is it this one?

Lol, take a joke dude…seriously! You seem new to forums, I’ll just excuse it as that, and not your actual personality. My parents actually do the same thing also. This forum isn’t just robots interacting with other robots, it’s humans. Therefore, there will be horsing around, just look at one of the deleted threads. Also, when did “If advice for a novice is only given to someone who has typed in a “super creative” user name” come up anywhere? I just thought you had a funny name, and I had no advice to give. I thought maybe you had a interesting reason for this…

Well, I guess, welcome to the family!

Edit: Oh, I guess 99% of the people on this forum have sucky lives according to your logic.

Its this one: http://www.streamlight.com/product/product.aspx?pid=7

I can understand why you would like to keep the light though. They are very reliable and american-made. My friends dad’s work actually just bought several hundred of some streamlight stinger led versions. The way to change modes is great too.

Have you contacted streamlight at all? If this thread doesn’t help you find a new battery, then maybe try that.

AFAIK, no one has modded the standard stinger. You could get this drop in for it though.

Forgot to say but you can purchase the batteries.

Oh, didn’t know they could use those, those it’d be different because of the bulb.

I have two of those stingers and have been wanting to try this: http://www.malkoffdevices.com/shop/mdstg-streamlight-stinger-dropin-p-121.html

As I understand it those have the 2 prongs on the bottom so it fits into the space for the bulb. Or does the standard streamlight stinger not use that type of bulb?

I’m not trying to buy factory upgrades. I’d be better off buying a new light.
I enjoy modding.
I’m thinking that the first thing I would like to do is to retrofit batteries. I haven’t pulled out my calipers yet but hopefully 2) 18650s in series. But that also depends on the available space in the tube. I don’t know if space is needed for a controller or if I will be replacing the whole head

This is what they got, http://www.streamlight.com/product/product.aspx?pid=123. They even got a battery pack and charger for each one for like $110 bucks because they bought so many right from streamlight.

So, you want to put 2 18650’s in there? I don’t think that will fit, the led stinger is 8.41 vs 7.38 for yours, and the battery pack they have is 3 rcr123’s I believe. And, being 18 mm in diameter vs 12m, I don’t think that will work. Hopefully I understood your question correctly.

Edit: Just looked a little more, and the led stinger has 3-Cell, 3.6-Volt Nickel-cadmium sub-C battery. Could we assume Matt needs light’s stinger has the same battery pack?

Edit2: Found a link on newegg for the xenon stinger, and it does indeed use the same batteries as the led stinger. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA04K03J0305

So, you could get the stinger battery replacement. But, I still don’t know if the battery tubes are the same diameter, and if they connect the same in the xenon and led one.

LAB: Thanks for jumping in! Great suggestion!

Over at Candlepowerforums, people spend alot more on lights, so I’m sure there would be quite a few people with your light. Theres still alot over that that use incans, versus here, it seems like everyone mainly uses leds.

The subject makes one want a better light.
I had those and have given them away.
I recomend SolarForce of HK model L2M host (body only) then order a dropin.
Price is about $12.00 + $2.00 for frgt. order a lanyard or pocket clip.
The dropins get from another vendor. Mine is a 1,000 lumen. For $12.00 free fgt.
So, about $26.00 total. This unit will make one very happy and you will Bless

Then read up on heat sinking.

The stock battery is 129.75mm (5.1 inches) long X 23.68mm (.932 inches) dia o.d.
Both +&- terminals are on top
The light tube is 23.91mm (.941 inches) dia i.d.
Inside the tube at the head their are 2 springs. A small dia for + and large dia for -
It looks like their is an extra 1/4” of length inside the tube.

18650s are 65.1 mm (2.563 inches) long by 18.27mm (.719 inches) dia o.d.
So 2) 18650s would be 5.126” long. That’s .026” longer than stock and .213 smaller in dia. That would give me space to make a my own battery using 2) 18650s.
Worst case 18490s are 49.25mm ( 1.939 inches) so stacked would be 3.878” long.
1.222 inches shorter than stock.

Would this be beneficial? Series? Parallel? Or don’t reinvent the wheel and buy OEM?
