Nice Zoom, Out throws C8

Picked up one last spring, I think.

I didn’t think it was that good, and I needed a switch when the switch broke on wf-502b. Wound up raiding a different light.

Got 1.76A I think, on high, I think it will out throw a C8, focused the beam well. Looks like a solid pill, had it apart the other day.

Might be worth a look, probably cheap on ebay. Like to put a warm white led in there, good now though

Here’s a relatively poor beam shot vs a C8 that I measured at 3A with fresh AW 2000ma vs. zoom with a used cheapie.

Throws better than a C8, well maybe I shouldn’t have said that, but it’s not bad and I like the light. The wide end of the zoom is nice for trail walking.

The C8 has more spill, light outside the middle, which didn’t show in the photo and helps sometimes

Is that a Zeusray zoomie?

No, not a Zeusray. Same host as this: http://www.fasttech.com/products/1601/10002775/1206500-cree-xml-t6-xm-l-t6-5-mode-zooming-led-flashlight

This is my favorite zoomie host. Solid pill (alu) and the widest flood beam in a zoomie I’ve seen (81,5 degrees, Zeusray had up to 77 according to Tom E and others: Review: Zeusray CREE XM-L2 zoomable flashlight)

Bright_Mike, what did you pay for yours?

Yeah I’m really liking this one. I think I paid $7.50, maybe $8.50? I don’t think it’s going to out throw a C8, tested vs. a similar amp C8 last night, sorry, I shouldn’t have said that, but the reason I said that is because it seemed to be doing well past 100yds.

Mike do you have heat issues on high, wide zoom setting? I usually use it on low for the wide setting anyway.

Really liking it in the woods. I use it on low and wide to see the trail, high just screws up night vision. If I hear something, then I zoom in on high setting. Plenty of punch. Got about 1.8A this morning with a battery a bit over 4V, 0.35 on low, which is about perfect for me.

I was guessing 80-90°, like you said Mike, very wide.

I quite like zoomies. But I think they are often emitter dependant to get them to throw.

I have an XP-G2 with a Qlite 3.0A in a 26650 zoomy. It throws well, but actually doesn’t quite match a C8 with the same LED/driver and a OP reflector.

Never seen or used an XM-L/2 based zoomy with really good throw. My Zeusray pulls 3.75amps on high with an XM-L2, so is making the lumens. But it doesn’t throw as far a TIR equipped 220 lumen XP-E zoomy.

What’s the Ø of the lens?

Do you have a link? If I can get it a little cheaper than FastTech and save a dollar or two I won’t be sad. Don’t care for the internal electronics at all, I replace the driver and LED.

No heat issues on mine, but mine are not stock. I put in LEDs on copper Noctigon MCPCBs and grease them a little with a thermal compound. When running them up to 3 amps they don’t get hot after longer use. On Turbo mode (pulling over 4 amps over tailcap) the light will start to get warm after 5 minutes. I unscrewed directly after and felt the pill, was only warm to the touch. I’ve not run it on turbo long enough for it to get hot. I have a 60 second timeout, then have to reset. I am considering programming it for more is it doesn’t even break a sweat after 60 seconds.
Have not tried stock though… I don’t even turn them on stock.

I removed the lens from the light to measure the full diameter: 28.8mm / 1.135 inch.

No, I think I got it on ebay, I don’t think it is as popular so might slide through at a good price.

Wow, over 4 A, that’s pretty good! Sounds like they have great heat management!

Yeah I got 29mm, for the lens, but I wonder if 28mm would work?

I think mine has an XM-L T6, so pretty good. Modes seem about like I’d want them, not perfect but not bad

I think this is the same light but different color at Banggood

I have several of these lights and like them

Cheaper than FastTech. Thanks!
