Nitecore TIP2

Got mine Today.
No Lockout and same lame buttons as in older version?
Clip is Junk too?
Mine is going back in the Morning.

Almost a great Upgrade of the TIP too but the Lockout is a deal breaker for me.

I am not sure what goes on in my pockets but it seems pretty busy in there and a light with a switch will always try to burn me down?

To be more specific, their are the same quantity of two buttons but a new implementation and how they work.

Tip = Press Click on. Button is tall and not recessed.

Tip2 = Press hold, then on. Button smaller and recessed.

No lock out to the best of my knowledge. Just the 30sec Demo mode.

For your comparison:

Yes there are 2 buttons and they seem as easily pressed in pocket to me but as there is no lockout on the new model it seems much more prone to pocket activation than the original and I have had those turn on in pocket pretty much every time I carry one.

It just seems like a major design lapse to overlook and remove this feature or maybe improve on it even.

Everything else about the new model seems fairly solid but if I can not count on it only turning on when I want it to I can not carry it at all.

This makes me sad.

2 sec hold to turn ON is not a viable solution to prevent accidental activation in a pocket…
But it’s effective to lose some sales with picky flashaolics

How hard was it for nitecore to implement a proper lockout mode instead of requiring 2 full seconds turn on time, a few examples of what could’ve been done:

To lock:
-Holding one button while clicking the other
-Holding 2 buttons at once for 2s
-Double click both buttons at the same time

To unlock, same as above or these for fast single hand activation:
-Rapidly clicking 4 times one of the buttons
-Click and hold one of the buttons

In the past, Nitecore had issues with high parasitic drain when in lockout mode. Supposedly they figured it out, but have they really? Maybe they decided to just avoid it altogether. Sucks, nonetheless.

Except that in the TUP they implemented a pretty advanced lockout and the OLED display suggests that they also figured out a solution to the Parasitic Drain issues unless the Meter is lying as part of the fix?

Considering that the Switch housing seems to be a separate part in the new TIP I can’t believe that they didn’t design a small sliding cover to hide the buttons altogether?
Or if they had simply recessed the buttons so far that they would be a lot less prone to being pressed accidentally.

I would even be eager to clip the TIP to the top edge of my pocket as I do with my ZL but the clip does not seem like it will last a week even if I try that?
The TIP2 is all metal and they could have designed in a useful clip somehow too?

Maybe a clip could slide to hide the switches?
2 Birds with 1 Stone!

Why didn’t they just keep the UI if the TIP 1?

I use turbo sometimes, but I don’t want to always be holding the bottom down.

This head so much potential, but I’m going to pass for gen 2 when they hopefully learn from this mistake.

To avoid as many accidental activations complains as possible… because they were unable to figure out how to implement lockout. :person_facepalming:

It seems like many people are skipping the tip2 because of the flawed UI, but many non flashlight enthusiasts will still buy simply because it is brighter.

Same here. 100% dealbreaker. If I had this, it would never go on a keychain as I only carry tiny lights like this clipped to the collar of my shirt, so I don’t have to worry a single bit about accidental pocket activation, and when I want light, I want light instantly, not after a longer lapse than it takes to get my my cell phone out and shake it to activate the camera’s LED flash in it.

Same here again. I’m holding off on even considering it until we get a v2 with a better UI or the TIP 3.

Is it accessible to do an emitter swap on the tip2?

I opened mine up, scroll to the bottom here

Thanks!
