Identification Guide for Nitecore Charger Users

Nitecore has become aware that counterfeit chargers, labeled with Nitecore trademark, have been sold by unauthorized companies. This identification guide aims to ensure only legitimate Nitecore chargers end up in the hands of our loyal customers as our customers expect and deserve the highest-level of satisfaction when purchasing Nitecore products. There are two approaches:

Approach 1:

Tool: a tiny magnet
Procedure: Place the magnet on the metal surface (battery positive pole contact points or slides in the slots) of the charger.
Reference: A legitimate Nitecore charger does not attract the magnet, while a counterfeit charger does the opposite.
Physics behind: The battery positive pole contact points and slides in the slots of a legitimate Nitecore charger are made from pure copper, a non-magnetic material with high electrical conductivity. Therefore Nitecore chargers do not attract magnets. The battery positive pole contact points and slides in the slots of counterfeit chargers are mostly made from iron, a material with poor corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity, and easily attaches to magnets.

Approach 2:

Procedure: Disassemble the charger; examine the internal circuit board and components.

Reference: The capacitors of legitimate Nitecore chargers are developed by Niteocre and labeled with Nitecore trademark.

I own an I4 from several years ago — bought from DinoDirect in 2012
mentioned at 19.79$ shipped - Sysmax Nitecore Intellicharge i4 V2
it fails the magnet test. Hm. Much older model

I emailed Nitecore today since I just found this test page to ask, though it’s performed fine.
I’m guessing it’s an earlier model but not the earliest and that this test is for models made as of late 2014 when they put the method online.

Mine has: — yellow label “Made in China by SYSMAX Ind.” and with SYSMAX Ind and 2051130410076 engraved on the back of the case.
It’s the one that has bays 1 and 3, 2 and 4 paired — the later model differs.
Haven’t taken it apart yet to look at the innards.
