No-name '6XL2' dissection

I did little more investigation and find out that changing these two resistors (R4 and Q1, wich were 0Ohm) to 2.5mm2 copper wire will boost quite nicely. Before that mod, it did take about 7,2A at 4V, now it will take 10.6A at 4V from power supply. And it will feed leds also, i did measure with luxmeter that there was really improvement.

But it is this FET that is now heating quite much, in about 1min it is ~75-80c where it stays ok, but it heats that driver so much that i wouldn’t recommend. And yes, pill seems to heat quite fast also!

Have to find out some other way to make this badly designed driver usable…

Here is this driver, and larger version also:

Cool. Thank for the info SJT. I have a couple of those drivers.

I got this driver in a x7 xm-l2 WITH NO FET OR HEAT SINK ON THE LED PAD. Gutted. Looks like it has been apart before for extra solder work (bodge jobs). Was about as bright as my mini-01 xm-l2 so I am just gonna install a three pole micro switch to go between DD and DD but through the two r200 resistors see how that goes.

Got some 42mm copper washers on the way to replace the missing heat bridge to body and have used heat sink paste between the leds and reflector to pass some that way.

wish I had paid the extra 2 quid to try the securitying one now.
