Pulled apart an old battery pack today and inside were fourLG ICR18650W2 batteries. Two of the batteries were at 3.17 v and two were at 2.13 v. My question is should I trash the two batteries that were at 2.13 v? Or should I charge them and see what happens? Is it even safe to charge them?
I keep any battery higher than 2.5V. Those at 3.17 should be fine as long as capacity is OK. I highly recommend you get a hobby charger such as this (this one is very good and cheap) so you can do discharge tests and charge batteries of course. There are plenty of threads here discussing hobby chargers and laptop pulls.

Hi guys,
I recently went on a hunt for laptop battery packs so I could pull 18650 cells. I think I got about 6-7 packs and after I threw away any cell with lower voltage than 2.5V I charged all of them with a generic cheapo charger that I got with a SK68 clone. After my Tenergy Accucel6 arrived (some days ago) I started doing discharge tests to 3V at 1A. Results are posted below. Cells listed on the same color rows came from the same batter pack. All cells had retained voltage and had not dropp…
Hi All,
Just recently joined this awesome forum to fuel my flashlight obsession
However, my flashlight collection was completely based on AA batteries as I believe in using batteries that you can buy in any store, anywhere. My EDC is Jetbeam BA10 (awesome light) which I feed with different brands of NiMH and some NiCd that I still own (I know, I know but they allways work fine) and I also own a bunch of Mini Maglites that have Terralux (great) and Nite Ize (bad) u…
here is a 2s balance charge lead set up for 18650's i had to cut the springs in the battery boxes as they are for none protected cells and I'm using protected cells so to get them to fit i had to remove the spring and reverse the polarity of the battery boxes (run the batteries the other way round) i have also made some singular ones for protected cells and use red heat shrink to cover the black wires and black heat shrink to cover the red wires so there is no confusion witch way the battery goe…
