Not exactly a BLF light (HDS Systems)

I’ll have to give it a try then, I injured my hand back around the time I was doing that review and only just got back to 100% in the last couple of days.

Some of the RRT-01 drivers have high parasitic, but only if you do not click off the tailbutton, which is mechanical, so Zero drain

Some of the RRT-01 drivers do not start at the super dim low modes, instead they come on at about 20 lumens, but can then be dialed down to very low firefly levels.

If you are lucky to get one with a good driver, it has reasonably low parasitic drain, and it starts up from the very lowest output.

Some people discovered that they can just leave the tailbutton on all the time and rely only on the rotary dial. Others found their particular driver had high drain, which requires using the tailbutton.

The latest RRT-01 Model, the one w the tailswitch, has a Brass Pill. This makes it a bit chunky. There is no LVP in the light, it can also run CR123, 16340 and 18350 in the stock tube, with no extensions.

IF you want to use 14500 or18650, the extension tubes provide that option.

fwiw, I have several RRT-01, I like them very much. Recommended for the simplicity of the UI, the rotary dial is very intuitive.

$600? Yikes! It used to be about $245~$380 depending upon options.

If you add long tube the price is more.
SDR50 (300 lumens) plus AA battery tube is 452.
But is not 600🤣

From the configuration page;
“ Custom EDC Rotary: $586.00
Part number: CRoNA52BsbLs2aaFCus
Description: rotary, NA52 Hcri 200 lm, silver bezel with black body, sapphire, 2xAA battery, flush button, svr univ clip, 3 Wks
Link: Unique configuration link
So $586

you have expensive taste

fwiw, the $58 sapphire lens is just bling… the glass less is 3mm thick. No other light I have uses such a thick lens. It is essentially unbreakable, and the bezel protects if from scrattches.

the 2xAA body adds another $59… but if you like it, it is up to you to spend your money however you want.

the universal clip is really ugly and bulky, it adds $66. I do not recommend it.

so yes, your selections include $183 in options that are, imo unnecessary, but…

The price is the price, its your money, spend it however makes you happy… Im amazed how many people feel a need to talk about price.

If I buy a Toyota, do people say it costs too much, the way the people posting about HDS price in this thread do?

Im not sure why so many people feel a need to complain about the price.

Is it because this is a forum for people with small money?

fwiw, If I buy a 4WD and people feel the need to compare it to the price of a 2WD, I dont think they are appreciating the value I place on 4WD.

Same for an HDS Rotary, comparing it to a 3 mode Malkoff or any other light that does not have a Rotary dial, misses the main point of the Rotary.

The Rotary UI is in a class of its own. Clickies need not apply.

If you buy a Benz you get leather seats, if you buy an HDS get the Fixins

true, and bulletproof glass costs extra… so does gold plating. If you want those upgrades, its your choice.

If I remember correctly, Henry doesn’t see the use in Sapphire glass and only offers it because people want it as an option. It is less transmissive by a bit, so for the lens’ purpose, it is a bit of a downgrade at extra cost.

As far as the clips go, I never liked them on the light. I despise bezel up carry, and most of my lights just drop in the pocket anyway. That’s all personal preference though.
I have always suggested a pocket sheath for the HDS range. There are an embarrassment of choices to be found on that front these days.

If you need sapphire…

I put sapphire on my RRT-01

No, it’s because we spend it wisely. I’ll drop $600 on a light no problem, but I expect that light to have more than one lumen per dollar :stuck_out_tongue:

If you paid $5k for a Toyota, no. If you paid $50k for one (that isn’t a Supra, or otherwise classic or heavily modded) then yes I would :stuck_out_tongue:

1 Thank

If I could find a Toyota for $5K, I’d buy two.

Bit of an odd thread this one. The title indicates it’s not budget yet lots of folks have b!+#=d about price (myself included). Whether it’s Lumens bang for buck or some other feature (or lack thereof) . I commented because I’ve been curious about this light but for others, why would you comment if it’s so far out of your acceptable scope…?

Zoulas and others seem rather happy with their purchase which just perpetuates my curiosity. Hope you enjoy your light :sparkles:

After reading about HDS, I appreciate the meticulous fabrication of these and would likely buy one. I’ve spent far more on the collection and would trade much if it for one of these.
I was walking through all the high-end Las Vegas strip malls and wanted to know how much any item would cost. Then again, I think it’d be a useless question and just hand over the cash. :face_with_peeking_eye::rofl:
I did negotiate a $1,800 skincare product down to $200 for my wife. The product seemed to be legitimate. I wonder if I can convince my wife to buy a flashlight!?

For some bizarre reason many people on this thread believe something that is expensive has to be large. Or large lights can be the only expensive lights amd small lights cannot be expensive because they are small.

Size and cost have absolutely nothing to do with each other. I mean zero to do with each other.

We are not talking about potatoes here where two lbs of potatoes cost more than one lb.

4 Thanks

Forget flashlights, tell me about these $350 potatoes. I want to know more.

5 Thanks

Yeah, some of my favorite keychain flashlights are pretty expensive for their size, but I like nice keychain flashlights. :+1:

No, you won’t like it. These potatoes don’t have LVP…

2 Thanks

The candela per lumen point gets overlooked easily, but probably shouldn’t be.
The HDS lights do more w/ their paltry 200/300 lumens than many other lights do w/ far more.
Few would correctly guess the output on high when using one. It’s more light than you would expect.
