I second Zak’s recommendation. A single-emitter light might only save 3-4mm in diameter at the head, but those small savings can make a surprising difference in how comfortable it is in the pocket. A slight increase in length due to the fact that larger diameter optics/reflectors are also deeper is a very reasonable tradeoff. It would end up similar in size to the Skilhunt M150, but better:
Even though there are fewer emitter choices for 6V, mostly larger, it could actually have a slightly more focused beam. For example, 519A’s behind the Carclo 10511 result in about the 2.8 candela / lumen.
The 16mm Gaggione LLC22F is estimated with the B35A at 3.9 Cd/Lm:
I would guess that the planned NTG50 LED would work, too.
Perhaps even the driver could be unchanged? 6V 2A would still make it likely the most powerful regulated AA-size light on the market.
D4K boost, 519A 5700K dedomed, standard default frosted-narrow-spot optic. Grey host with steel bezel and clip and cool white button. I forget which Carclo product number that is… but it’s the narrowest one with a flat surface instead of having scoops removed for extra throw.
However, it fell ~40cm from a chair seat onto a soft carpet floor, and that was somehow enough to break it. The aux LEDs still work, and the button responds normally, but the main LEDs don’t light up any more. Seems like maybe one of the main LED power wires may have detached. And the soldering in there is too tiny and precise for me to really fix it.
I was really sad about that… because it’s my favorite light and it broke.
So I need to get myself another one. Now that it comes in red, I’d probably get a red one instead of grey.
