[PART 1] Official BLF GT Group Buy thread. Group buy officially closed! Lights shipping.

CAN THE GT FLASHLIGHT USE THE 18650 3.7V 9800mAh WITH NO PROBLEMS

Sir there is no 18650 cell with 9800mAh, highest capacity currently is 3600mAh :person_facepalming:

I’m in!

Your 9800mAh will most certainly only be 1800mAh (if you are lucky)

Such trash batteries (which are most likely repacked waste calls)
will have a large mismatch, and the performance, when used in series will be even worse…

Nowadays you get a very good 18650 cell for $5.- and less.
So no need any longer, to look for repacked, second hand, budget cells…

Steel_1024 was asked by Neal to test one of the lights because he’s familiar with NarsilM and he’s close by in Taiwan. He found the 2 flaws that were already mentioned by Texas_Ace. The boot cover that is not transparent enough and a wrong fuse setting in the firmware. These are the 2 things now being fixed on the other production lights. Lumintop is on top of the situation.

If there are 18650> 9.800 mAh on the label. They are FALSE, cheating. they are - 1000 mAh.
… 18650 = max 3,600 mAh.

Maybe

Buy those batteries is throwing the money in the trash

Frankly it is a bit scary you ask! :open_mouth:

The GT uses two carriers of 4 cells in serie which is a rather delicate configuration, but necessary for voltage. It mandates to use four quality cells of the same type, from the same manufacturer and possibly from the same batch. Those cells should always stay paired and used with the same state of charge. The cells you mention are probably poor quality and should certainly not be used in serie four at a time.

Stay with the brand names: Sony, Panasonic, Sanyo, LG…

Do we have april foolsday?

No i’m thinking about the link at the order page. :money_mouth_face:

We just have hundreds of new members, specifically attracted with latest BLF projects…

It will remain active as long as the GB is active I assume. Assuming no one leaks the link and we then have to shut it down of course.

Coyotehawk will add you to the list on his next update. It will be early January when you will get a PM (personal message) and e-mail giving you all the details of where to go and how to pay.

Welcome to BLF.

Yep…. It is real scary that you ask!! :person_facepalming: . :+1:

But it is good that you ask. This light is not a toy!!

Follow patmurris’s suggestions below & if you do not know about Lithium Ion batteries as well as the SAFE USE of THEM… Now would be a great time to cool your jets of GT enthusiasm & learn.

That way hopefully you will have a harmonious outcome with your GT. Otherwise it could be the beginning of a disaster for you.

This is also a good example of why I was so insistent about the polarity protection.

It is a small change that keeps people from dead shorting cheap cells and possibly causing them to vent fire.

It is this video you know…

Yep… well said TA. :+1:

You need to use button top batteries. The ones that stick up a little on the positive end.

If you want to use some protected cells here is a list I made a ways back showing the best cells from 2 stores that are sponsors here.

Liion Wholesale:

Protected Panny B $7. Protection Cutoff Current: 5-7A (usually about 6A)

Protected Panny GA $8.49. Protection Cutoff Current: 12-13A

Protected LG INR18650MJ1 3500 mAh $7.95. Protection Cutoff Current: 12-13A
.
.
RMM aka Mountain Electronics:

Protected Panny B $9.65. Protection Cutoff Current: 7A

Protected Panny GA $9.95. Protection Cutoff Current: 10A

If you don’t want protected batteries you can get them cheaper. Samsung 30Q and 35E are very good choices and are about $5 each.

If you want 8 unprotected batteries, the light works on 4 or 8, we have a deal running on 8 button top Samsung 35E batteries for $40. These can be ordered at the same time you order the light and will be shipped together.
