Q16?

Yeah future thing, mentioned here:

At start Q8 it seemed nice to do a 26650 version bit I kind of forgot about it since a little scaled up version would not bring that much new to the table but with 2S to feed 12V LEDs it is indeed very interesting

My preference would be the Q4 first.
(A shrunken version of the Q8 running on 14500’s.)

Yes Q4 I want to kick off as soon as Q8 is in peoples hands and GT driver design is more or less done.

+1 :+1: … That would be a sure winner.

I will never understand why people want to have a light that requires special / expensive 14500 batteries, will get half the runtime and way less output of a single larger cell?

A single 32650 is the same basic size as 4x 14500 but offers WAY more power and runtime. Not to mention it is a lot cheaper and you can use a 26650 or 18650 if you desire as well. Even an 18650 offers more power, current and runtime then 4x 14500’s.

4 of the best 14500’s would be roughly a 2400ma ~15-18A cell
An 18650 offers you 3000ma in a 25-30A cell
A 20700 offers you 4000ma and 15-20A+
26650 offers 5000ma and 20-30A
finally the old 32650 offers 6000ma and 20A (forgot what it’s rating was)

Just me I guess. :frowning:

Good points! I never really though about that…. I was thinking more about the size of the light. :open_mouth:

Your way sounds much better T_A. :+1:

Call it Q1……

Always wanted a single 32650, thrower or triple or quad or all 3, just me I guess!

Ditto, I think this would be a real cool light and a whole lot more practical then 4x 14500.

Interchangeable heads, e-switch, tail cap and of course Narsil, maybe in a little suit case!!! Wooooohooooo!

Too much? :person_facepalming: Well I can dream, can’t I!!! :innocent:

Before I have read your post, I would write something similar.

It would be great to have a flashlight for 26650 or 32650 batteries.
If the Q4 would have have a battery carryer, the length of it would be nearly 6.5cm.
So If the flashlight should run with 4x 14500’s please use a carryer and produce spacer to use 32650, 26650 and 18650 batteries.

seeing your modding skills, sure you can have the Q8 run on a 32650 and well the GT on 2S 32650 XHP 6V mod is something to look forward

hmm little off topic but well why not
Q4 is 4x AA or 14500
As with the Q8 and GT if one does not see benefits of having it, does not want it, thinks it is not for him/her, fine, just don’t ask to be put on the list and don’t buy it

I totally agree bout the not-so usefulness of a quad 14500 light. The BLF SD10 I have, modded, running a 32650 stripped of the protection circuit is an awesome light. Big problem I see is the on-going availability of good 32650 cells. The SD10 light though is not an ideal host, with the awkward removable pill, and not much metal

The new Shockli 26650 5500 looks like the new leader of 26650's in both power and run time. It seems to be a slight bump up from the old, good LK 5000's. If the availability and cost of these cells becomes attractive, might be worth taking advantage of them in a new designed light.

The Lumintip BLF SD10:

A Q4 would be much smaller as a Q8 with 32650.

But lets make a poll or similar, if its time for the Q4.
For me the Q4 should be as small as possible and as bright as possible. And one big battery could have some benefit.

The nice thing about building a light for a 32650 is that it can work with any cell you can think of, with a spacer you can use a 26650, 20700, 18650 and there is also enough room for a 4x 14500 cell carrier

They also make 4x AA carriers already that could drop in for those that wanted to do that.

Could even use adapters and use 10440 cells in those carriers.

Building it for a 32650 with a cell carrier for 14500’s if someone wanted to use those for some reason makes way more sense. I would totally buy that.

A 14500 only light, why would I want it?

It would bother my OCD to use a flashlight with a smaller battery than it is capable of carrying.

I like that SD10, with a better build to handle the power and make it more modable that would be a very handly light, I could see it being perfect for the car for example. A quad version could be cool as well. The cute optic should be a perfect fit for such a light come to think of it making it very simple to mod it to a triple/quad.

It could be designed around a 30mm TIR optic which is unique with the option for a triple or quad as well.

Well heheh no poll on the cell setup for the Q4, that is set even now before it is started, AA and 14500, simple
A small soda can with no space for any xx650 cells, just a different light then the wished 32650 light

Since I don’t have any 32650 cell and some are fans, please link to some decent quality and priced does please? Could be interesting to see if it could be part of a project but for now I don’t see reviews on them, I dont see reviews on new lights using the format.
20700 is around the corner, so a 26650 Q16 makes sense in my (undoubtedly limited) view, so enlighten me so I can see better what the fuss is about all of a sudden. Why is 32650 so hot that it must be considered in a light communicated from post 1 by DavidEF to run on AA (and 14500)?

The point is not that the 32650 is so amazing, it is a larger battery with a larger battery performance.

https://www.fasttech.com/product/1429201-trustfire-tf32650-3-7v-6000mah-protected

There was a GB awhile back IIRC where they were around $6 (or was it $10? thought it was under $10) IIRC.

The point is that it is the same size as 4x 14500 and provides 2.5x the power in the same space for less money too boot. On top of that the 14500 and AA can still be used with a light setup around the 32650 where the reverse is not possible. Plus on top of that you can use a 26650 or any other size cell you want making it one of the most versital lights around.

The fact is that 14500’s suck monkey balls. I have a few 14500 lights and they are interesting toys but that is all they will ever be. The runtime is downright horrible. They simply do not have enough power to do anything else. Even an 18350 has more power then a 14500. I am lucky to get a few minutes of runtime before they start to noticeably dim.

The only thing worse then a 14500 is a 10440 but at least it has a significant size reduction to justify the dismal performance.

Hmmm… TrustFire…
Not that they’re bad, but 4mm larger diameter for only an additional 1000mAh compared to Liitokala 26650 seems a bit meagre…
And then the price… You can buy 2½ Liitokala’s for that price, and then you’ve got 12500 mAh…
I like the idea of a LiIon D-cell though.
