[PART 1] Official BLF GT Group Buy thread. Group buy officially closed! Lights shipping.

 When you get right down to it it’s pretty amazing that Giggles could light up a chunk of rock at 1c miles.

Too funny! Yes it was appreciated.

The lit switch looks sort of like an eyeball. Subdued yet visible. Nice touch Lumintop!

ArmyTek only specifies cool white and warm white, with significant lumens difference between the two options. I’m thinking it’s closer to the 6500 though, I have a neutral on the way from Richard at 5000K in the highest power bin he had. Judging by how much light was hitting the shoreline at 1.3 miles, I’d say the stock emitter right out of the box would show light at this range, maybe not as much but it would illuminate the shoreline I’m pretty sure. At 15M I got 1.1025Mcd with the stock emitter (2100M throw), 1.2375Mcd with the cooler white (2224.86M throw).

The Luminus SST-90 has been removed many times in order to gain throw from other emitters. I wouldn’t want it here, but your preference in color and beam profile may well be different than mine. The new CFT90 is much different, it’s a circuit mounted like a COB with a much smaller die surface than the SST-90, so it should indeed have better throw, but be more difficult to center due to it’s offset mount on a square copper mcpcb. Doable, just difficult. And expensive. Both are 3V emitters though, with the new architecture having a lower Vf.

very nice, and im jealous of your camera :stuck_out_tongue:
im still shooting with a 40d, but am actually on the verge of upgrading to the mk 5 you have
anyways just curious, did you do a control shot with no light ?
would of been nice if your bro could of done a control on the magazine pic
to see the actual difference the gt was actually putting on it :+1:
hats off on this shoot.
people that look at the pics have no idea that its hard work getting decent shots, especially when your by yourself , like i am.
and in the single didgets wind chill at times to boot ! :open_mouth:
amazing the lake allowed you to shoot across it.
everytime ive tried spanning water, the uprise of lake funk, always kills the distance
ISO and shutter if you dont mind ?

and btw dale, i see towers in the background, begging to be lit up !

The 5D4 was at ISO1600 f/2.8 at 0.6 sec exposure.

There was no moon, no lights, it was extremely dim there where the target was set up, I used an ArmyTek headlamp with a 70.2 in place of the 50. Without the headlamp, it was hard to see to walk around. The G1X wouldn’t have gotten an image of the camera without extensive use of it’s large sensor. (comparatively, of course the 5D4 is full frame and arguably the best low light camera Canon presently makes)

Yeah, not gonna happen. They are at the Police Station about another mile in the background. :stuck_out_tongue:

I couldn’t give a rat’s patoot about the camera, it’s not the camera but the person behind it that matters. I care about the target. I wish I had one (target).

any reason or advantages using that high of an iso, rather than, a few more seconds exposure, and say 200, or 400 iso ?
ive just always tried to use fairly low iso at night on a tripod, to keep the noise down.
of course 1600 iso on the 5mk, is like 200 to 400 on my 40 d . lol !

LOL !! i gotcha, scratch that idea! :stuck_out_tongue:

yes and no on that…
at nightime, the camera will either make or break you, esp on a shot at a mile or more

Right, I can use 10,000 ISO with better result than the 40D at 1600. The person running the camera has to know the equipment, but yeah, a really good camera can get shots you just wouldn’t get otherwise.

The longer the shutter speed, the more any movement at all blurs the shot. Heat rising from the lake after a 55 degree day, tripod vibrations, everything matters. I like to keep a compromise between the 3 points and use good settings of all 3 (shutter, aperture, sensitivity) If and when possible, of course.

The GT put more visible light on the shoreline at 1.3 miles than the TN42 did at 1 mile, no doubt about it. It’s really an epic win for Team GT.

^ ^ ^ And this, folks, is why we have so few beam shots. Lol

I certainly could not get any decent looking shots.

Astrolux MF01

Coyotehawk will add your name to his sign up list. You’ll see your name when he does the next update. It will be sometime mid January when you are emailed with the details of where to go and how to order. (Uses PayPal, btw)

You can also buy 8 of the Samsung 35E batteries for $40 at the same time as you buy the light. No sign up necessary for those. There are plenty of batteries in stock.

Welcome to BLF.

Ps, The group buy is still open, but could close at any time.

I have 1.6k ISO and everything else to back it up but no target. I can do sensitized astronomical film for a long exposure, but again, no target.

TN42 at 1 mile, 7DMkII at ISO1600, 0.5 sec, f/5.6

GT at 1.3 miles, 5DMkIV at ISO1600, 0.6 sec, f/2.8

Not apples to apples because the 7DMkII has a crop sensor at 1.6x vs the 5DMkIV full frame at 1x. And the 7DMkII had a 24-105mm f/4L IS lens where the 5DMkIV had a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS. 105 on the 7D2 is like 168mm compared to 200mm on the 5D4. One stop advantage in the lenses speed, but 2 stops in actual setting used. Close, the rest is a matter of perception with some light pollution to the side in the 1 mile shot, full darkness in the 1.3 mile shot. Difficult to get exact matches. The 7DMkII I gave to my daughter.

Well yeah Brian, but you have to try to match what the eye is seeing. Long exposures on your fancy film can cheat it, as can my 102,400 ISO speed. I can make a full dark night look like a cloudy day, but then, it’s about replication not exaggeration.

Yup. My point was that it’s not the camera but the person behind it. We agree.

Thank you for the info & beamshots Dale!!

I will be interested to see/hear the results of the 5000k Neutral you are getting from Richard.

I’ve tried so, so hard to resist but my new found addiction to lights doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon. And what collection would be complete without this monster of a light.

Would like to be added to the list if there’s still room.
