If that’s the case and they have been hacked, they’re sure taking their time letting people know of such situation.
Seems likely that PB made this daft decision by themselves :person_facepalming:
No I meant It’s like PB holding their users to ransom, pay up or else go through all the time & hassle to relink all your posts etc using another service.
OK, Where’s OUR master mind SB …. Hello… SB where are you … knock knock.
What can we do now, Ah Ha…
I have an IDEA,
We all here at BLF do like we always have done when a disaster strikes, like when another member or in this case our entire world here is at risk and we can all just chip in to purchase for SB more POWER meaning…
Our own BLF private image hosting server to preserve all the work that’s been done here over the last 17-18 years or so…??
Are You Following Me…?? Is this a doable thing.?
I’ll chip in a couple “C” Notes as a down payment for a new server picture hosting thingy for SB to link just for us at BLF…. Well Maybe … ??
I spend most of my time here in the way back times in the Archives which also happens to be when PB seemed to be the primary hosting service I guess because a lot is already missing, just gone, so I’ve noticed,
So maybe we might take this big issue as an opportunity to expand our BLF capabilities and I know from past experience like lets see last big deal was OL, hum what about his pics, was he PB also?
That thought is horrid to me, oh know, scared to go check…
I remember how long it took us to buy a lathe also, so a server if feasible at all, might not take long at all, mostly depends I imagine on the amount of work it takes for SB… if anything…
Only person in the know about these things here would be SB of course so I’ll offer to start with a $200 donation myself, since it’s my bright idea, or maybe not so bright … ??
Edit: Oh there’s SB, doing tuneups, I’ve not said one bad word YET… or maybe I might have but don’t know it yet…
Edit 2: Sorry about the extra decade added to the length of BLF archives, but always optimistically looking towards the future, you know.?
Good to know, that’s where all 1000 some photos are now, got lucky really as it was the first one I saw and joined, didn’t know of the app but only got this stupid phone in Dec. said my old flip phone was equal to the old rotary phone and won’t work anymore, sad day, to many gadgets that don’t work right, or maybe it’s me,
thanks for the kind word... haha... ... the tool was done in 2 days as a quick way to migrate my posts with photobucket links to either imgur or ImageShack.
photobucket been litter with ads upon ads, it sometimes freezes the javascripts behind as layers upon layers of ads racing against each other to pop up to grab our attentions. Was tempted to subscribe, but back-down when I started to receive many emails pushing for subscriptions...
and now thanks to the policy change, this is the push I needed to move on. I subscribed to ImageShack (I took the 50% discount offer) and open an account with imgur.com. Still in the process of moving most of my photos that I have the original backup to the new host, slowly but surely.
I share my posts to a few forums, BLF, CPF and TFF, CPF and TFF both uses bbcode, while BLF here seems to go the plain HTML route. So in order to save time migrating my picture posts, I created the utility to help save some time...
Here is a PDF document for the utility ==> See bottom of this post for updated version...
Below is a flowchart of the design (it's in the document as well):
Main program flow
Saving imgur or ImageShack repository to local storage
as explained in my earlier post, the tool is to address the different way of how imgur, ImageShack (and apparently many other image hosts) store the file as hashed id compare to photobucket and help semi-automate updating my forum posts. it will not work if the image host does not keep the original filename somewhere, in this case, imgur and ImageShack does as one of the file property. it is with this information that the tool can compare and change the photobucket link to imgur/ImageShack link.
Below is a dropbox link to the latest v1.0.3 version. It's a Windows Desktop application written in C# and requires .Net Framework 4.5 installed.
If you are interested, but before you download, please read the disclaimer below and be advise that you should run this tool in a sandbox environment (virtual machine) to test if it helps. Do keep your anti-malware and OS up-to-date and scan for malware. With the rampant of malware (viruses, worms, ransomwares, etc.) on the Internet nowadays, one can never be too careful. Also read the manual for the imgur requirements as you need to register a security token for the tool to access your imgur account information to download your image properties.

See bottom of this post for updated bug-fixed version.
Default application set to only download less than 2,500 images' properties either from imgur or ImageShack (just the image properties, not the actual image itself), you can increase this limit via a setting in the config, please read the manual for details.
oh, btw...
one more thing, the manual only details the steps for CPF posts, for BLF, in order to copy the underlying source of your post, remember to switch the Text format to "Simple Post Editor" before copying as pictured below:
and... try not to curse me if the tool doesn't work for you... it's just life... my excuse is... hey, it works on my computer... LOL!
Update 2017-07-05:
Check Sum (use these to verify the authenticity of the file):
Bug fix imgur migration as it will choke when 2 original file name are the same. No issue for ImageShack as I forgot to apply the fix to imgur when I fixed the ImageShack migration back in v1.0.3.
Added new Backup Images function as I was unsuccessful when trying to backup from imgur.
Reference the checksum.txt to check the authenticity.
This situation reminds me of what happened to netzero and juno. Free unlimited internet for life which became 80 hours a month, then 40, then 20… eventually disappearing entirely.
All very very cool, but way past my learning curve, still trying to get flashing drivers figured out but definetly not stressing myself on learning that, just a thing I’ll learn when I finally do.
I do know DOS, and yes I am old…er, used to be the only way to make these things work and I still use DOS on occasion when I’m looking for something and it’s not where it should be, like a pic I can’t find and I finally decide to just look through every pic I have so, star dot jpeg and 10K pics to browse through until I either find what it was I couldn’t find or I forget what it was I was actually looking for. Usually the latter of those two…
But sure am glad for people like you and I bet many many others are as well, sad you had to take the time to put that massive disclaimer on your work, but it is what it is, and yes someone would come after you if their pics went to some far off place, but funnier yet to me anyhow is all that work you’ve done, disclaimer and all, but then your post ends with,
Ha Ha Ha, need to write another program for busy people saving the world that will do automatic signature lines… hey, on to something I think…
my sig is sort of recursive… like fractal… so… my sig is still changing sig…
I’m not young either mate… LOL! I miss the good old DOS day… life is so much simpler then… I still find myself taking every opportunity to escape to the command prompt to do that DIR thing… guess old habits die hard for old folks like us… hahaha…
yea… the disclaimer is… it is what it is… I don’t like it either… but it’s a necessary evil…
