Please give me a good reason not to drop $100+ on a Spark headlamp.

Best argument yet! Good excuse never to buy anything too.

Pity it was a bt too late

i use mine for work and its been dependable. use the diffuser to light up a bigger area in front. st6 is more flexible as you can use it for throw/with diffuser/without reflector. im sure youll like it.

I look forward to reading your findings Don!

7 headlamps!

Note the high intensity foot illuminator (That's an HS-802) of the right. For the headlamp that THROWS! Pity it is too heavy for the Ultrafire headband but it does mean you'll have severely well-lit feet.

Don't go out in the streets like that or you'll probably end at your own hospital caught in a conversation like this:

"But I do work here! I am part of the staff!"

"Yes, sir. It's alright, sir. Would you mind taking those pills, sir?"

If you have the extra dough and really want it then I can't think of any good reason not to get it. Go for it.

Hey, Don, could you comment on that silver 16LED headlamp, I see you have 2 of them, how good are they, whats the battery life, flood and illumination distance, intensity?
Ive found one for around 5$ online, it looks rather well built compared to other multi-led 5$ headlamps out there?

They might be well-built but they don't actually work! A friend dropped them off to see if I could get them to do anything. They use 3AAA cells in the usual nasty holder. I'd forgotten all about them till I found them when coating my lights at the weekend.

When thy reappear I'll take a look at their innards and see if they can be persuaded to work.

Edit: After some fiddling, I got them to work. The battery holder design is poor and the whole design of the light is asking for repeated and severe contact issues. Easy enough to fix but very, very annoying.

Ill be waiting for your report on how good they are :D!

It got shipped from Germany on Sunday allegedly - personally I suspect it went out this morning. About a week should see it here. Maybe even by Friday so some serious playing testing will be called for.

I was thinking of getting this light... but tell me, does it have overdischarge protection?

Don't know yet - but will find out soon enough. As a nice surprise, they also put 4 CR123 primaries in the box.

All I can say thus far is it works and the cell( s ) can go in either way round.

I hope you don't like it, so you can sell it to me!

:P

Think you are going to be out of luck. The bathroom mirror shot - the left hand blob of light is the camera flash.

Comes with an optional magnetic base which will hold it at many, but not all, angles on my fridge door.

let us know when you find out! I'm itching to pull the trigger on this one, but no discharge protection or an overly low voltage discharge protection is gonna be a deal breaker for me.

I'll write a review soon. And will check on low-voltage cutout. Especially as most protected cells don't actually cut out on low voltage.

First numbers

Light Battery
Spark ST6-460NW Super 18650
Spark ST6-460NW Max 18650
Spark ST6-460NW Med 2 18650
Spark ST6-460NW Med 1 18650
Spark ST6-460NW Min 18650

It took a surprisingly long time on Super output - I'd turn it off every 40 or so minutes to cool for a bit as it does get warm but not too hot to touch on its maximum output. It certainly ran for more than 1.8 hours. Probably because I was using a 3100mAh cell and they probably rated it on a 2400mAh cell.

It cut out on maximum output - when I got the cell out and tested the voltage (Over a minute after shutdown as the meter wasn't where I thought it was) it read 3.12V which is fine by me. I don't think it was the cell protection as they usually seem to need resetting in a charger.

So I think it does have low voltage protection.

I was going to save some money to get the Lumintop PK30 but seeing your initial impressions I may have to reconsider my options and go for the Spark first.

What happened when it cut out in maximum output? Did it switch to Med2 or just shut down?

PS Sorry you like it ;)
