police flashlight

Pretzy, don’t forget this particular comment Foy made in regards to the Cyclone C88 which would be a stellar choice!

Foy once said: I’ve put the Cyclone to use over the last 30 days and it (at least) equals the 980L in output and pretty much blows its doors off in every other respect.

I have an MCU C88. It is a cool torch, but far too big and heavy for EDC I think. Given the OPs requirements, I think the 980L is a best choice option.

so romisen http://www.shiningbeam.com/servlet/the-69/****NEW****-Romisen-RC-dsh-T602-II/Detail
or 980L http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/ultrafire-uf980l-980lumen-t6-memory-led-flashlight-118650-p-5513

I just want to make the right choice now. I have a C8 pouch for my accoutrement belt that is open at the bottom - is there any issue with fitting either of these?

Thanks you guys have been a great help being a noob - I find myself addicted to this site and need to check it out all the time

So gothebroncos,

I am awaiting my sky ray king!
When I get it, I am going to take some beamshots of my lights.
Then you can see, how the romisen does.
I never had the 980L, so I can not help you with your decision…

But don not spend so much time for this. You are some kind of addicted right now and you will find yourself ordering the next light soon! (What about a Search & Rescue Light like STL-V2 or Crelant 7G5?)

Greetings
Toppel

Don’t count this light out! As far as C8 goes, it’s really the best.

The 980L should fit a C8 pouch. It’s the same diameter and about a centimeter shorter.

I think you are on the right track with a 18650 torch Gothebroncos, it gives you the option to cigar grip the light so you can do other things while holding it.

UF 980L ordered from Manafont - here’s hoping its all good

Nice start to the addiction!!

Let us know what you think of the light.

I think you will be happy with the 980L. Be sure to get some good quality cells for it too mate. I started out with the cheap blue UltraFires, but they are of varying low capacity. Got some good Panasonics and they make a world of difference. Last night I lit up a treeline over 100 metres away with an amazing amount of light.

any links pretzy?

thanks scaru but i meant for the batteries - i bought the 980 from manafont

Which ones? Cheap blue or good panasonics?

the good ones

I got these ones from Ali Express Protected Panasonic NCR18650A 3100mAh

Protected cells are recommended as they give some extra measure of safety. These are quite long and don’t fit all torches but fit the 980L ok.

So far very happy with them. You can always sell a few to your mates if you don’t need ten. Some of the other guys can probably give you links for smaller quantities.

A good quality charger is a good idea too. I got one of the Nitecore Intellicharge i4’s on a group buy a while back. I think there is still one running.

Do you have a mutimeter to check your cells? Also a good idea. There are heaps of cheap ones online, almost anything cheap will be ok just for testing cell voltage. Ideal range for 18650 cells is 3.5-4.2 Volts You can run them down lower but you don’t gain much by it and it’s better for the cells to keep them topped up.

The Panasonic batteries are the best, but if you’re on a “budget” these are a really good bang for your buck:

Chigger the ones i received are not very good of that bettery. They wont put the power to the lights that i have. For example with those batteries the light will only pull 2,4a where as my solar force blue and whits will pull 3 plus. They arent bad batteries but for a few more dollars you will get a better battery. I dont recommend that bettery, if that means anything.

I’ve been using 3 lights lately. 1st the Shadow JM07 its a 26650 that will run for hours and with a traffic cone it looks like a lightsabre. Those 4500mah batteries last all night with heavy use. 2nd is the good old Solarforce either with their new 2 amp 2.7-9v XM-l U2 1 mode dropin or the Intl-outdoor 3 amp 3 mode dropin. This one is running off a panasonic 3100mah 18650. 3rd is Solarforce L2m also using either their new 2 amp XM-l U2 or an Intl-outdoor 3 amp 3 mode dropin. This ones running of an AW 18350. the first two sit on a utility belt without being bulky. The L2m sits in the shirt pocket next to the ancient cell phone. If the L2m is too big than either the Thrunite C1 or Niteye10. Both Solarforce host get shimmed with soda can strips to bleed off all that heat. All these work well in the rain, heat/cold, good grip area and all holster well.

I have four of them, and all of mine will do 2.8 amps with the Nanjg 105c. I wonder if there are varying qualities with them again…
