things are going well these days and i don’t see any reason (yet?, e.g. thru problems during development phase) to zebralight like delay the prospectedprospective product release date of around mid dec, pretty much 2.5 months from now on. release announcement with full details and groub buy opportunity shall be ~early dec. given these dates and further smooth development progress, poll4 (topic: whatcha willin to pay harhah) shouldn’t start until 1 month from now on.

or wait … i should find another entertaining poll4 in the meantime. lemme tink, hehe.

No, 2A for a slot is enough. With 18650 I nearly always uses 1A. With 26650 the 2A current is fine for standard charge, many of the 26650 batteries could accept 3A or 4A for a quick charger (i.e. with slight damage to the battery), but I have not seen a need for that.

Making higher charge current in a charger will also make it more expensive, especially if you need PFC correction (Required at higher power levels).

If I had to start again I would buy Shan charger for my Ni-MH and Efest LUC (pending review of course) for Li-ion (VP1 if it were not for the screen visibility issue).

dear Chloe, thanks for your input. the VP1 has a nice voltage display with 2 decimal digits. so i am thinking a dream charger should have it too. this option was not reflected in the original set of poll options so i replaced the “4.35V support” with it and moved the “4.35V support” to the end. it’s now the last poll option.

My dream charger:
–4 independant bays for 18650(no nimh or any other c*)
-Voltage/current display
-Works as a power bank
-Auto discharge function if needed
-Charges AND stops charging at 4.20V +–0.01V
-Current of 1A/h is ok
-Price up to 70$, if that really ment quality components

Well its a long thread to read but a good charger for me would be something reasonably priced. Nothing fancy but these basicfeatures are important:

- multi chemistry charging (nimh, lion).

- Intelligent cut off upon charge.

- Multiple battery sizes.

- Independent bays (4 of them).

- Basic light indicator for charge/full for each bay.

- I prefer to select the charge method (but I doubt that is possible on cheap chargers) OPTIONAL

• Ability to set low current charge (less heat) or charger does that automatically

My current $5 nimh ebay charger has some of the following, intelligent cut off upon chargem independent bays (semi) basic indicator, charges batteries hella slow (yeah I prefer those to those toasters of nitecore, sysmax etc)

reasonably priced? sure! … currently i have four quality 4-bay chargers and i’d love to exchange them for a single feature-rich 4-bay universal charger.

what is “select the charge method”, you got some examples so that we can understand?

Well, Im no expert on this but from HKJ’s and other users input, I’ve noticed that the algorithm used for lion and nimh are different. Use of cc/cv etc…
Universal chargers basically automatically set those for you. Would be nice to have an option somewhere to choose this. What would happen if a charger incorrectly chooses the charging algorithm for a nimh/18650?

Early buyers are not treated as guinea pigs to test the first version.

Then 30 days later they have buyers remorse when version II, with the improved hardware, and software glitches have been addressed comes out.

But I guess this is standard operating procedure for any electronic device.

I’m convinced this charger is a figment of your imagination. I think it’s a pipe dream that you’ve cooked up so that you’ve got something to talk about. If you’ve got proof it actually exists, and that you’ve got anything to do with it, put it on the table. As someone else likes to say, pictures or it didn’t happen!

i do have proof but it is top-confidential top-secret material which i am not permitted to disclose. industry secret so to speak.

ask any other flashlight manufacturer to share pictures’n details of their ongoing hot new product developments and they won’t either.
