Q8 modding

Now I don’t have a Q8.
I think the one on the lens of C8 works.
Tonight I’m checking it out.

Checked!
It is the same as the C8 lens.

Thank you! Huge help to Q8 owners. I will get 10 of them and it will be more than enough for the life of this light.

Ordered! Thanks!

I need to talk to the developers/designers of the Q8 driver, (possibly for the BLF lantern project) as i don’t remember who was the programer & designer of the driver for the Q8. ( updates posted here: >> *BLF LT1 Lantern Project) (updated Nov,17,2020)

DEL did the driver.
He has drivers on Oshpark

Tom E. did the firmware. But he is now rarely on BLF.

…in the meantime ToyKeeper knows the Q8 firmware very well and can do extra magic to it!

Ish. I haven’t actually done much to the Q8 firmware… instead I kind of rewrote everything from scratch using totally different abstractions. It has a similar basic UI, but the code bears almost no resemblance.

Either way your candle & sunset modes would at home in the lantern!

In any case, I already have everything except the driver-specific details working. All that is left in terms of firmware is to add support for the lantern’s particular hardware, which isn’t yet determined. But if anyone wants to try it on a Q8, there’s a compiled version available.

BTW, to configure the illuminated button’s behavior in that build…

  • First, go to lockout mode (4 clicks from off).
  • Click 3 times to change button brightness in lockout mode (off, low, high).
  • Or, do the same but hold the third press (click, click, hold) to change button brightness for the regular “off” mode. Let go of the button when the brightness gets where you want it.

I will be updating you asap as i work on the new prototype

I just wanted to mention it here that you can now purchase a new MCPCB board with 4040 and 5050 pads for your Q8.

I would absolutely love if there was a 2S2P board for the BLF Q8.

Would probably be a realllly good idea.

I posted this on another thread,

You can now buy the Q8 lighted switch here, and they take paypal.

Good info Alex…. :+1:

I see Lexel makes a 4S driver for the Q8. You might ask him if he also makes a 2s2p driver for it.

Oh yeah I completely forgot about it.

Thank you Jason!

Guys, look at the Sofrin store. Reflector, DTP MCPCB, and lighted switch. (Click the pictrue)

Very cool! But why in the world is Sofirn selling this and not Thorfire?

Hmmmm…… good question. Isn’t Sofirn a division of Thorfire???
