Recommend a good single aa light with firefly/moonlight mode.

when have you ever deleted a post?

FWIW, if you’re willing to use 16340 or 18350 battery instead of AA, the JETBeam RRT01 I just got from FastTech is barely over your price limit and has the best firefly modes I’ve ever seen. It adjusts smoothly and easily from 0.005lm to 500lm, and rather a lot of its range is under a lumen. It’s great for getting exactly the amount of light you need, even if that means you want it dimmer than a tritium vial.

I just did a quick test, and going from zero to ~2.7 lumens (same brightness as L1 on the SC52) covers about two thirds of the light’s control ring range. The remaining third goes from ~2.7lm to 500lm. It has very fine-grained control over low-lumen output.

The main drawback is that its battery only lasts for 4 days, even at the lowest setting. In contrast, the SC52 can last for up to 3 months per charge. So, not a good light to leave on overnight as a night light.
