Reflow vid on a sinkpad board

Hello djozz,
It’s a very smart hot plate setup, you have made  :GRADE: I would like to make one my self.
But I have a quiestion:
I can not find an adjustable soldering iron , that can go below 200 C . Is 200 C too much do you think ? for reflowing LED boards ?
This is the one I have been looking at:

I dont want to invest in a lab power supply like you have…… not yet anyway
Kind regards

Hi Michael, for 10 dollars just go for it. I think 200 degC may be quite perfect, I’m more concerned about the lowbudget adjustment system and electrical safety than the temperature. I think that maybe adding the aluminium block to the heat-path may well lower the temperature as well.
I bought a very cheap chinese solder iron once that measured 40V on the hot parts, but even that may not be a problem in this case.

Ohhh, I could not do it in any way that would involve setting the LED on the hot surface. I have to use paste and place the LED and allow the temperature come up until is the the little shimmy dance as the LED settles in. I am not steady enough nor is my sight good enough to place it after the melt… Plus, I feel it has to be better for all the parts to come up to temperature together… may be wrong!

thank you very much

regards

Michael L.
