Review: Convoy C8 XM-L U2 1B 1x18650 8x7135 Flashlight

I’m glad that’s the case. When did you purchase that?

Edit: Also which one did you get? The one I got was this one:

WTF? Thats lame.

Whoa! This is weird! I just woke up, and tried the bezel again, and guess what? It came off easily!!

I have NO idea what is going on with this, but I am glad that I can now get both the body and bezel apart, albeit with some scratches on my relatively brand new Convoy C8 :)!!

Grrrreat!

No glue on mine. I would not have expected them to start doing this. If this is confirmed, I’ll update the review to provide that as a warning to potential buyers. If mine was glued I would have made it very clear and would not recommend for modders.

I just took it off. It was tight but not glued. I got it off by hand.

I have two 2,8A 3C and both are not glued.

Mine wasn’t glued either

Hi,

At this point, I DON’T know if it was glued :(.

- I know that I had a heck of time getting the body separated from the head, and only got it off with a crescent wrench (dinging it in the process)

- I know that I could NOT get the bezel off last night, including using nitrile gloves (didn’t try the vise grips - too worried)

- I know that FastTech said that the bezel at least is glued, in response to a ticket

- I know that when I tried this morning, the bezel came off no problem, no gloves needed

Anyway, sorry for the panic that I may’ve created. I’m just glad I was able to get it apart.

Thanx for this review Relic38! Just ordered 2 Convoy C8s from FastTech.

Nice review, thanks for sharing

No problem. I have purchased three more of these and all have the same build quality. Very consistent.

BTW, the FT price is now $16.51…

The price in the review is the price I paid, after BLF code.

Thanks for the review. I now have a Convoy C8 on it’s way to my mailbox.

While waiting impatiently for my Convoy C8s to arrive, I’m wondering how much the LED of these lights can be driven in stock version.

I also ordered AMC7135 350mA Current Regulators (10-pack) together with the two C8s. If I leave the heat sinking set-up of the Convoy C8 as it is, would adding 2 AMC7135s to the driver (3.5 Amps total) be OK?

From my testing, heatsinking is very good. Increasing the current should not be an issue.
You will have to add the chips on the inside of the driver, due to the pill design. The retention ring will probably not handle more chips on the battery side.

Thank You Relic38.

What’s the highest current possible? Can it handle 3.85 Amps or 4.2 Amps?

On a standard star, 3.8A will reach the point of diminishing returns. On a copper sinkpad star, you could go to 5A.

Hi,

Apparently, Shiningbeam is now carrying the Convoy C8:

http://www.shiningbeam.com/servlet/the-270/****NEW****—Convoy-C8/Detail

It has an XM-L2, and says 2.8 amps on high, and smooth reflector, but it’s more expensive ($31), but then I assume it’ll ship from U.S.
