Due to popular request, I have disassembled the unit again. Opening is tight and it will not allow accurate measure unless the shelf is totally removed. My guesstimate should be 1mm thick, base on the pitch of the screw threads. 
I was hoping for more... my Roxane M6 is 2mm thick.
