I was doing some researching into Li-Ion battery safety (i’m pretty new to this stuff), and was worried about my Sanyo UR14500P being used in the E11 (the Sanyo I discovered is ICR (per Sanyo data sheet), the least safe kind and is not good for higher than 3A constant usage (per Mountain Electronics where I bought them from.)).
Long story short, there’s a review of the E11 on the German site TLF where the power consumption was tested and NiMh was twice that of 14500
Also there’s this review of the Utorch UT01 which is a clone of the E11 so it should have the same specs, and at high setting, the NiMh was 4.2-3.3 amps and the 14500’s was at 2.01-1.9 amps (the Sanyo is safe, phew).
I’m know next to nothing about Li-Ion batteries so I trust these review by people who know better. I believe it has to do with the fact that the 14500’s have a higher voltage than the NiMH.
