Yep, you really can’t despite the initial hope.
This doesn’t solve much, but there is one ‘remedy’ if the goal is to always have instant turbo at the ready. Change the mode to smooth ramp and jack it up to the highest level (i.e. turbo). This way double-click will always get you turbo regardless of whether the light is locked or not.
