The Sofirn SD05 “diving” light only draws ~70uA when off. It has a 4AH 21700 battery. 4AH/70uA = 2381 days
The self drain on the battery is probably higher than that.

I checked a couple other magnetic ring dive lights marked Volador (Willcrew DX30 and DX60, thought to be manufactured by Sofirn). They also measured 70 to 80uA standby drain.

Point is, magnetic ring lights can be made with low drain. Now they need a USB port for charging. (no longer dive lights…).

From an older thread, but I also read some claims that it it may be high enough to start worrying about it. I wonder if Hall switch is the only way of implementing rotary dial (out of curiosity, not necessarily excessive drainage concerns).

In general, magnetic anything requires a Hall-effect sensor, and those eat up more power than typical µC hibernation mode. My DV-S9 will drain a fully-charged 26650 in something like 3wks because parasitic drain is 10mA because of its (quite nice) magnetic slideswitch

The parasitic drain of the Sofirn DF10 with its magnetic ring in the off-position I personally measured at 33 micro-amp, which would drain a 3000mAh battery in over 4 years. So it seems that Sofirn is already able to keep it low
