Use fresh 91 octane and don’t rush the process. Should take an hour or two, if I recall, and the dome will fall off. After that I clean it with alcohol and blast it with compressed air to get rid of some more residual silicone and to dry it off. 1A tint emitters result in a good tint after dedome.
Unfortunately I only have u3 3d on hand. I’ll build with them. Maybe I’ll order some xp-l hi 3d when the other aspects of the project is nearing complion. Wish I had ordered the 2s driver so I could use 4x xhp. What I’d give for a few hours use of a metal lathe… fabricating the new 76mm head will take some major ingenuity using a drill press.
edit: Maybe I should complete this build with the floodier emitters which will be handy in the un-illuminated barn when checking on the curing tobacco and leave the xhp + 51mm reflectors for the next srk. I also need to build a multi-color multi-emitter light to check curing tobacco for mold. I’m a smoker, organic tobacco grower (since 2007), and have been making my own cigarettes since 2006 (and soon cigars). I’ve been using my name here for almost 20 years elsewhere so feel free to google.
Your light will still be a decent thrower with the domes on I’m sure and you’ll have a better tint and more lumens so feel good about that.
These days with the XP-L Hi’s being available I would rather rock those than dedome existing leds that’s for sure.

@Hoop Thanks. Since my last post I acquired another piece of 3” round bar to replace the one planned for use that adds another inch of fins taking the overall length to 7” (177.8mm) and providing a smoother transition to the stock components. With all of the effort and work involved in such a project I ask myself ‘why’ and the answers I get are ‘no one else is’ and ‘I can do better’. A true 6k srk with space for a charging system… maybe I should build two and send one to a popular manufacturer.
The C8 reflectors were delivered today, less than 48 hours after they were shipped. I’ll have to use the copper strip attachment method to avoid contact between the leads and reflectors but fortunately I have an idle solid copper cpu heat sink with fins to provide netal for strips that should work just fine.
