Sipik SK68 Clone - 3-mode. First impressions. (Picture heavy)

whats the cheapest in bulk with colours blue/red/silver/black we can pick ? :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi guys, thank you for the forum! It has been a big help and I just found it a few days ago.

I wondering if these are the same lights on Amazon US;
This looks like the no name 3 mode light at $6.45,
http://www.amazon.com/BBQbuy-300lm-Flashlight-Torch-Adjustable/dp/B006E0QAFY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1343789017&sr=8-2&keywords=CREE+Q5

and I think this is the 3 mode Ultra Fire version,

Enjoy your stay here, LaterDudes!

“LaterDudes” — re those two Amazon lights you linked to and described as three-mode.
Read the reviews, and the comments on the reviews — you can’t be sure those are going to be the three-mode design.
You can’t even be sure they will work with AA alkalines — some people got lights that work only with Li-Ion, some got dead lights, some got one-mode.

One reviewer wrote “just so you know, this flashlight I received only has High and Off, thats it”
and another said he bought three and got different lights, different strobe rates, different brightness.

This is typical of the experiences people at BLF have had buying this kind of thing.

(The most interesting thing in the Amazon description is where it says
“Product Details …
Shipping Weight: 3 pounds …
California residents: Click here for Proposition 65 warning.”
Prop 65 is the lead/carcinogen warning — which might mean they know the light uses lead paint or lead solder,
or might just be Amazon covering their donkey because they don’t know about it; the link goes nowhere)

The lights that look like the Sipik SK68 are “lottery” — unless Amazon has done something to make sure these are multiple-mode lights.
If they are for sure, it ought to be in the description, I’d think.

Been burned by this from several sellers — “AirAccent” for example advertises multimode, ships single-mode and ignores complaints.
So if they aren’t promising multi-mode, look carefully and don’t expect the seller to know or care what gets shipped to you.

(My current hope for better is ‘VeroSale’ — search that, you’ll find the thread — - they sent me a bad one and have promised to test the lights they send me so I’m going to try them one more time)

WATCH OUT FOR VEROSALE. I ordered there 2 months ago and got nothing. Gonna open a dispute on PP tomorrow.

Same here. Unfortunately I waited too long and don’t have the option to dispute it.

SB, you could try and fill reclamation process with your bank

does this can be really 3 mode?

Well, it does say 3 mode - high low strobe.
But I believe there should be cheaper 3 mode clones available now ;)!

Oh thanks
but as said before on ebay it’s a lottery
and the oldest linked posted from the friends are out of stock
or don’t ship to my country!
any link for the Ultra Fire 3 mode like flashlight of Dimlux?

I got a clone a year ago and it is 3-mode.
The Sipik you linked shows as a Q3

Here’s a ebay link for a 3-mode “Q5”
It has Ultrafire branding shown, with ebay YMMV

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CREE-Q5-LED-300-Lumens-Zoom-Torch-Flashlight-Lamp-Light-/160831844723?pt=US_Flashlights&hash=item2572533173

For US consumers about $6.50 for the q5 3-mode is as low as I can find.

I fell head over heels for mine. Got it a year back for $5.50~
Great thrower even with cheapo NiMh

I quit using protected 14500’s after getting stranded in the dark.

ebay or amazon? hopefully < $4 or $5?

I picked up 7 UF SK68s, 5x black and 2x silver and noticed that the emitter is set differently between the black and silver ones. The black ones have the emitter sitting behind the white portion of the deflector and the hole of the polished deflector is smaller and covers more of the lens, the emitter on the silver ones sit completely on top of the white portion and the hole of the polished deflector is larger and covers less of the lens area. In a comparison, the silver SK68s are more floody with a larger spot circle and more intense when extended than the black SK68s. As far as I can tell they are both Q5 emitters with the the 3 rectangular boxes. Anyone notice this ?

Emitter sits in the back of the white nylon deflector

Emitter sits completely in front of the white nylon deflector

Top emitter is XR-E, bottom is XP-E
Q5 is just the bin.

^ very helpful resource

XR-E often, in my experience, have a plastic centering piece holding the star+emitter in place. XP-E don’t have that super dome the XR-E has and XP-E often has the silver reflective piece around the emitter (this piece loves throwing wicked ugly artifacts into the beam too).

Works like the one in the OP, haven’t measured the current or lens diameter though.

Updated with colored spill light.

How many different versions are there of this (great little)flashlight?

Every single one of them is slightly different from all the rest.

Hard thing would be to try and find two the same. Even when they look the same, have same modes, quality can be all over from weak blue emitters to very nice.

Surprisingly I haven’t heard of many failures even using 14500’s that tend to get the lights hot fairly quickly.
